Bethlehem sees record pilgrim crowd for Christmas

BETHLEHEM, West Bank — The largest number of pilgrims in a decade have gathered in Bethlehem to celebrate Christmas, with tens of thousands flocking to the Church of the Nativity, built on the site where tradition holds Jesus was born, for prayers Saturday morning.

Israeli military officials, who coordinate movement in and out of the West Bank, said over 100,000 pilgrims have come to the town since Christmas Eve, compared to about 50,000 last year.

Dwindling Christian numbers eh? I wouldn't bet on it.

I think this, most of all shows exactly what people think about the state of the world that we live in. I'm sure if you asked many of these pilgrims, the reason they chose this year is possibly because that in years to come the journey may be impossible.

Nonetheless, I would be hard pressed to say that come next year even more will come. Should there be a chance the year following, I would hazard to say even more. Thus is the current status of our world. People will jump to faith more and more, and rightly so.
