The US computer giant this week released its annual "Next Five in Five" list of five innovations expected over the next five years.

Among the predictions are advances in transistors and battery technology that "will allow your devices to last about 10 times longer than they do today," IBM said.

Today's lithium-ion batteries could be replaced by batteries "that use the air we breathe to react with energy-dense metal, eliminating a key inhibitor to longer lasting batteries," IBM said.

"If successful, the result will be a lightweight, powerful and rechargeable battery capable of powering everything from electric cars to consumer devices.

"Better yet, in some cases, batteries may disappear altogether in smaller devices," IBM said, by reducing the amount of energy per transistor to less than 0.5 volts and relying on a technique known as "energy scavenging."

These are IBM's prediction moving forward, just thought i would the article and the video with all of you.

Not sure if all this tech is a good thing or bad thing.

I saw a thread dealing with the Cell phone tech but that was it, so I thought I would share all 5 predictions and discuss the whole article.

Any thoughts?

How nice it all looks now, but what will be the cost?

Freedom of thought or simply the Concept of privacy.
Soon it will be a good a idea to moniter the citizens brainwaves so the rulers can asess the general happiness of the population.

At least this isnt presented in such an Orwellian way like that Augmented Reality corporate ugliness im sure most of us have seen.

But IBM, weren't those the same guys tagging up the jews? while financed by jews? LOL

I believe they have our best interests in mind.

Well really it like anything, if it the right hands it would be amazing tech, if someone will I'll intentions gets ahold of it then it would become detrimental very quick.

I tend to be more optimistic as well and think that these are not planned for control but to better our society. I could be naive and wrong though.

Hopefully we keep it in smart and educated hands.
