Police Standoff in Bay Bulls Ends

An investigation is being launched after a man who had barricaded himself inside a home in a community south of St. John's for eight days was able to slip away without police knowing.

Leo Crockwell, 55, was arrested on Saturday on Petty Harbour Road on the outskirts of St. John's, about 20 kilometres northeast of the site of the standoff in Bay Bulls.

"We will review the circumstances surrounding him fleeing the home and evading perimeter security," the RCMP said in a statement.

Just so you Americans can see that the RCMP are just as incompetent as your police forces. A man barricaded in his home firing at anyone approaching shut down half a town for over a week. Police did not attempt to enter the house. The man then proceeded to slip out the back door of the home as police blasted it with water cannons.

If you'd read further in the article, you'd know they found him a few miles away. He'd been free for about 15 hours. Went to the shop for a pack of smokes, among other things.
