I know that most fans of this show don't "admit" to it, but for those who enjoy it, the winner was announced last night. Fabio, the surfer dude, won,
continuing a recent trend in which those who fly under the radar and don't tick anyone off, win the final vote. At least the flip-flop schemer came in
a close second (the win was by ONLY one vote)...while the strategist received 0 votes. Don't get me wrong though, I wanted Fabio to win. The others
were just nasty in their dealings, and he had to win 3 immunity challenges in a row to thwart them voting him off.
Of course, nobody liked Sash, even his partners in crime, hehe. (and neither did most viewers).
At least the producers listened to fans though. After two people quit, and were still in the jury, the Survivor boards went crazy demanding they NOT
be in the jury. However, it's in the contract, so.... But, next season, it will be made clear to the contestants that if they quit, anything goes
(they may end up not being in the jury, finale, subsequent shows, etc.). Personally, I'm glad to see it.
Another twist for next season, those voted off won't go home immediately, (or to Ponderosa, the holding ranch), they'll go to Redemption Island. They
will then wait there until another is voted off, and then the two will go head to head, with the winner returning to the tribe/s. This should be a
neat twist, and one that will vastly shake up the "alliance" strategy pioneered by the first season winner, Richard Hatch.
While this season was kind of lackluster, there were some real standouts. The 60-something farmer gal routinely beat even the young bucks in
challenges (and won the home vote award). A few good blindsides. Unprecedented dual quitters with only 11 days left to go, and a celebrity
coach...Jimmy Johnson (who oddly, was one of the first to go...). The idea of Old vs. Young players quickly was obviously a bad idea, so it prompted
an early switchup...and there were some interesting villainous moments. Jeff took a more active role in tribal councils (a subtle, but perceptible
shift), and called people out on major screw-ups.
Looking forward to the next season, and I'm not afraid to admit it.
