UN body to meet as SKorea plans drills near border

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea — South Korea's military waited for better weather to hold live-fire drills that the North warned would cause it to retaliate, but the high tensions prompted the U.N. Security Council to schedule an emergency meeting at Russia's request. The one-day firing drills are planned by Tuesday on the same front-line island the North shelled last month as the South's military conducted similar drills. The shelling killed four people on Yeonpyeong Island near the tense sea

This doesn't look good at all. Russia and China want South Korea to cancel the drills so a potential third world war doesn't start while the US says that the South Koreans can do whatever they want and that the drills are for defence purposes only.

All the countries are on edge about the growing tensions on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea even said if South Korea goes ahead with the drills, they will be met with "a catastrophe".

This could potentially start a third world war.

It's their island they can do what they want when they want! I sure people here would be outraged if their next door neighbor said you cannot turn your lights on at night or your going to "get it". They can do what they want on their own property!. Whether they are the moral owners or not does not matter. They are in legal possession. NK should stay out of their business!

South Korea can do whatever they want in their own back yard. Who the hell are the north to dictate what they can and cant do? As usual nothing will come of it because North Korea dont have any answers to the questions that the west throw at it. The question is.....do you think your good enough? I think not and they know it.

If the North retaliates then fine, World War 3 it is.

Tyranny will not be stood up for. If North Korea want to unleash hell, then hell shall reign upon themselves also

It's not their island, and they started the firing on that island to begin with killing multiple people. They've acted aggressive for years. They want war. They'll learn a lesson not to mess with advanced armies.

Well that's really the crux of the matter though:

The North does not recognize the sea border between the two countries, known as the Northern Limit Line, which was drawn up by the United Nations at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

The armistice acknowledged that the disputed islands belonged to the south but the north contested in the 1990s. Not saying the north is correct but the issue doesn't appear to be as clear as some may believe. Wait for the fog to clear and see if all hell breaks loose, doubtful though.

I think we will see the SKoreans do their drills as planned, and everyone will get all pissed and yell and scream and then next week we will all forget about it.

Sad how these things work, maybe NKorea will back up their talk and do something, personally i think SKorea can do whatever the hell they want to

I think the drill is with the US as well, and they are firing live very close to the border. Imo US is pushing for WWIII to start here. The economy is in dire, dire straits and the Cabal have their backs against the wall. .They didn't manage to get the war Iran to kick off WWIII, so now they're trying to get it going in N.Korea.

The last drill the US/S.Koreans carried out, just a couple of weeks ago, S. Korea 'accidentally' fired a missile into N. Korea territory then N.Korea retaliated. I am very much of the impression that this could be deliberate, US instigated provocation.

Oh, and we've got the 12.21.10 lfull moon lunar eclipse on Tuesday!

That's the problem though. The North already said that if another war escalates, it could go nuclear. Resulting in the deaths of thousands of people if this happens. But I think that if North Korea actually fired some sort of nuclear weapon, they would get nuked pretty quickly after that by all of the South's allies.

Of course they'll go Nuclear. The north grabbed the nukes to help them in the war they want to go to.

North Korea builds nukes so that when war with the south happens, it can threaten the US and allies with nuclear strikes if they intervene.
