Deer rescue caught on tape - Two deer trapped on icy Mississippi safe

www.ksdk.com

Godfrey, Ill. (KSDK) -- The deer that have been stranded on ice in the Mississippi River have been rescued.

A helicopter belonging to a private company, Helicopters Inc., was used to blow the deer to safety. The pilot was Bill Houska, the chief pilot for the company.

NewsChannel 5's Ryan Dean is on the scene. He said that a helicopter unexpectedly arrived over the deer and hovered above them. It took about five to ten minutes for the first deer to be blown to shore

This story might not be big enough for ATS,but I thought we could use some good news for a change.

Two deer were spotted a few days ago trapped on a ice flow cruising down the Mississippi. The local authorities stated they didn't have the resources to rescue these deer and a rescue attempt would not be attempted because of safety concerns, so they were left to there fate.

However, chief pilot Bill Houska took it upon himself to attempt a rescue, and he was successful as one of the deer bolted to safety, the other deer could not move and is being attended too by local volunteers....

Kudo's to Bill Houska a real hero in my eyes, and just shows what we can all accomplish if we put forth a effort.

Awesome!! I ALWAYS stop if I can, to help ANY animal who is in trouble... 2 weeks ago a big turtle was trying to cross Eastlake rd in Palm Harbor. I pulled over grabbed him/her and interestingly he didn't fight me picking him/her up.. I ran over to the other side of Eastlake rd where there is a lake and dropped him off.. I feel sorry for anything esp. animals that are helpless...

Really enjoyed this story/video. I think having the compassion to help/save an animal is what sets us apart, even though humans can also be cruel. Seeing those meat factory videos makes me sick, and the recent one of a fur factory. At least in storys like this we can see some good in people. Thank you for the post.

Wonderful to see the first one go toward the shore and able to run free. The second one seemed to be having some problems standing - hope he was alright. This gives me such great hope in people to see that they care enough to rescue these beauties! Thank you OP for an uplifting thread!

Just when you're about to give up on the human race, a story like this appears. Humans can be judged by the way they treat others, including animals, who are helpless and in need of rescue or care.

What a lovely Christmas present, OP.
