In 1838, Naundorff founded an association that had to serve the “Louis XVII cause”. Naundorff predicted to the members of his organisation that he
would ascend the throne on 31 December 1839, as Louis XVII, the missing Crown Prince of France, who had not died in the Temple prison during the
French Revolution. When his prediction failed to materialise, Naundorff founded the High Council of the Catholic and Evangelical Church, but this
High Council did not bring solace.
The man definitely was a swindler, but in the 19th century he had many followers, and the believers - or Naundorffists - are still alive and kicking!
They still want to overthrow the French republic and get a descendant of Naundorff on the French throne...
