China reportedly planning military exercise in Taiwan Strait

BEIJING (AP) - China intends to hold military exercises this month across the strait from Taiwan as Beijing builds up its capability to back up its frequent threats to invade the island.

The annual summer exercises will be held this year on Dongshan Island off the Chinese coast and will include air, sea and land forces, the China Youth Daily said Saturday. The newspaper didn't give a date or say how many troops would take part.

The reference by the China Youth Daily to joint air, sea and land drills this year highlights recent efforts by Beijing to integrate its forces for complex maneuvers - a key part of any possible attack on Taiwan but one in which China lacks experience.

Chinese officials say the annual military drills are routine, but state-controlled media often highlight their focus on capturing islands, a message clearly meant to intimidate Taiwan.

With 7 US carriers headed to the region, let's hope theres no little misunderstanding....

And 7 US battle groupps in the area.....................

Could we possibly be stupid enough to attack China or militarily defend Taiwan (same thing), lots of other countries have their navies out and about.

Of course there is always the alternative-RNC. Maybe they are not paranoid-maybe we are out to get them. Who would start a war with a nuclear Asian country-oh yea, weasel boy.
Maybe this should be under predications-but I hope it is all just a bunch of paranoia

I have een having my doubts over this "7 carrier fleet heading towards china" story.

Either we are the victims of a hoax, or the military releases are more sophisticated than I first thought...

Well we have every right to be in that region and if the Chinese are stupid enough to attack our fleet they will get their...handed to them oh well

The F-14s would shred any Chinese fighter. With all the carriers out to see its obvious that China wouldn't stand a chance. Is it possible that the US Navy anticipated this and intends to show off/intimidate China. I think that this is no coincidence.

china military are stonger then we think. the battle groups in the strait wouldn't stand a chance against china for they do have missles row after row aiming at taiwan. but would china do something stupid as this? what do they want a 400 mile long island for? looks to me china just want the pride of winning. lets wait and see

Some may claim the USA will win and some will clain china will win but i can guarantee we all will lose if this turns in to a shooting match.

Uh if china has row after row of missiles and they attack our fleet in international waters without a declaration of war then the US has row after row after row of ICBM's that will be in china in about 30min

Since China also have capability to attack US mainland via ICMB and Sub, US will be finished and so is China.

Will US risk the lose of the world, for sake of the tiny Island Taiwan?

The Chinese ICBM's would even start haw many do they have 10 they would get shot down by our shield and most of them would not even launch right also you subs are food for the sea wolf and California class subs. And even if they don't fire nukes they will do something I can assure you that. Can anyone say its raining cruise missiles on china think yes

Yeah, something you are not told is how many subs are included in this exercise....what's China's sub fleet like? Another Kursk on the way? Two subs rub together, one goes down. Tensions build. Finger's get itchy. I imagine we have a pretty good fleet of nuke subs rolling with the carrier group. If the carrier group is real. One mentioned the GW, and I think it is in the Med. at the moment...or am I crazy?

Well to my knowledge each carrier group has about 2 subs and 11-12 other vessels so that is a grand total of 14 nuclear subs in the region just imagine how many nuclear missiles that is
China is in big trouble if it attacks

China has been doing military exercises in the Taiwan straight for goodness knows how long.
