Pre or post-Giuliani New York?

What is your favorite New York era - the pre-Giuliani or the post-Giuliani one?
That's a topic I saw in some forum, but I think it's cool to have it here.

I left during the Lindsey administration, went back for a visit with people that I talked up N.Y. to before we got there, during a garbage strike.!!!!!In this age of apologies, I ain't got one yet. screw n.y., the stupid people that insist on staying there, and their little dogs too! :-)
The time frame would be 1979-80

Judging entirely on NY's 'soul' I think it is soulless now compared to the 80's and the early 90's.
