U.S. agencies have warned some employees that reading the classified State Department documents released by WikiLeaks puts them at risk of losing their jobs. But what about students considering jobs with the federal government? Do they jeopardize their chances by reading WikiLeaks?

It's a gray area, said law professors and national security experts who spoke with CNN. The topic has been debated intensely in the past week in legal and academic circles, ever since several U.S. universities sent e-mails to students with warnings about reading leaked documents.

I just saw this article a little bit ago and thought I would share it. What does everyone think about this?

I think that it might be an attempt by the government to limit the flow of information from wikileaks to young people by threatening them with being unhireable for certain jobs. Could reading wikileaks really lead to a "scarlet letter" being cast upon the reader?

I know this is a dry topic of sorts, but really, no one has anything important to say about this? If reading wikileaks documents is not illegal, then why would reading them put people at risk of getting certain jobs. Seems kind of bogus to me.

I think its a floundering effort by the government to try to scare the kids into not reading anything about wikileaks. A last ditch effort, because they know people are starting to wake up. The more people, especially young people, read and critically think about these topics, the more dangerous they will be to the government.

also, wikileaks has been barred from any government job. I can;t download the file because my father has top security clearance at one of the only shipyards on the east coast and he said if they found it was dled through this IP he would get fired. So would my mom, who also works for government. So needless to say, even if the password came out, I wont be seeing the file.

It should be illegal yes....perhaps it is already, I dont know. But when did our government follow the law?

Time to read the freakyleaks kids, stop playing the xbox educate yourself for once.
