Alright, so there has been some talk going on the speed of light is actually slowing down. Now I was thinking yesterday, what would happen if the speed of light sped up or slowed down too much?

Could it possible change the colour of our light like a rainbow does?

What would happen if the light changed to ultraviolet and we could no longer see the light?

Hopefully, someone with a bit more knowledge that I can answer these questions.

Put it like this;
The speed of light in a vacuum, c, is 99% definitely 3 x 10 ^ 8 and that will not change.
If light, howerver, as I think you are suggesting, slowed down too much, would simply result in our views of other galaxies being more out of time than they are at the moment..
If light, however, did 'shift', then we would still be able to see the other end of the spectrum, e.g. if there was too much red shift, we'd still see what was the ultra-violet, if it shifted too much blue, we'd see the infra-red

I cannot really conceive that light speed would change for any reason... If anything, (just ideas on the fly) c was related to the rate of expansion of our universe (we don't know about that now, do we?), and if it is, then if the expansion rate is changing, then light could accelerate or decelerate...

Has anyone ever thought about that, light speed being related to something (it could also be the size of the universe or...)?

I've thought about this before... I'm 100% sure that constants in nature are not 'just because', but have reasons for their value.. Like' Hubble's constant.. perhaps one day our knowledge of the universe will be good enough to explain exactly why these constants are.

I remember an article about catching photons using some big funky panel.
I know not very scientific, but anyway. What they found is that light can be manipulated and made to vary in speed. They just weren't real sure how it happened, but I think there theory had to do with gravity lensing. I think it was the fact that they could proove light wasn't truely constant that was the big deal.

Are you talking about light just slowing down or moving fatser? Not shifting right? Well if it just slows down then I think we would freeze, if it sped up then we would die of heat.

the speed of light can slow down if it has to travel through a dense medium right? so in space i dont see how light can speed up or slow doun in a vacum
