Yes they are interesting , and I think they prefer government from the bottom up as opposed to being autonomous .

ok... i feel like an idiot. my previous post i said 'if not for federal power we would still have slavery in some states'.... what i meant was segregation. slavery im sure involves more complex issues than states rights vs federal power. apologies for the mistake. i'm tired.

I leave the "jokes" to anything that has nothing to do with this particular matter.

Segregation was the fault of the Federal Government by abolishing the Constitutionally elected State Governments that emancipated the slaves, and establishing the Military governments instead.

The Southerners took their frustration out on the Blacks.

Had the Southerners simply been left to re-integrate into the Union and the Federal Government not destroyed States' Rights, more than likely the South would never have turned to racism as a political establishment.

The Southern Governments saw blacks as a threat after the 2nd reconstruction because they realized now that the Feds would use blacks in the governments down there to force Southern Politics and this indeed happend.

Besides, the Civil Rights movement was almost entirely without federal involvement until things were so shaken up that change was bound to happen.

Furthermore, since we are no longer a segregated society, the chances of us reinstituting that policy as a result of returning to States' Rights is a foolish fear.

I often out-weigh the cost of States' Rights at the humanitarian benefit, but now that we have freed the slaves and ended the segregation, it is time to return to our Union of States, or our blind faith that the Feds can protect the rights of the people will lead to our ruin.

You think you or anyone else could handle tens of Millions of your contry men dieing WithOUT a sense of humour...it will be the only thing that will keep you sain. And what i said refered nothing to that matter

Well, taking it from another angle, even with the LoLs it can be misleading.

There are people who still honestly believe that if the States had more power, you'd have slaves. It's so frustrating to talk to people like that, local prejudices are not solved by States or Federal governments, so neither can protect you in that sense.

but how far should states rights be extended? should we allow mainly rural states to permit sales of guns if their citizens wish, even though this may increase the crime rate in states with urban centers where the citizens prefer to ban guns? should we allow states to tax each other's exports? where do you draw the line?
