FBI memo raises Barbie child pornography fears

The new Barbie Doll from Matel has a built in camera that can record 30 minutes of footage and be downloadable via a usb cable...

The FBI has raised concerns that a Barbie doll featuring a video camera could be used by paedophiles. A memo to investigators warned that the Barbie Video Girl could be used for the "production and possession of child pornography".

Seems like the FBI has 'leak' problems as well..

The agency stressed the alert had been intended only for internal circulation.

However...

An FBI spokeswoman said there had been no reported evidence that the doll, made by Mattell, had been used in any way other than intended.

Wonder if this one was a wikileak or just someone else getting into the act?

Anyway just in time for Christmas shopping...

So it can be used by pedophiles. Sure it could.

A chop stick could be used as a murder weapon (and probably has before somewhere)

You can't cry about everything just because it "might" be used somehow wrongly.

I guess we better ban gerbils too...

LOL

The things government involves itself in.

Perhaps we should ban cell phones too.

And laptops.

And webcams.

Hell, we should make it so you need a license for video equipment. Else who knows, you may wind up taping some child porn. Because we all know everyone with a camera is a pedo, just like how everyone your kid talks to online is a pedo.

We should make a license for being a pedophile at that.

Only TSA agents are allowed to think of children.

Well you cant blame us for posting this, it is really getting to the point of BWCWS, or boy who cried wold syndrome, with all these ridiculous pedo warnings, give me a break!!

And, Mattell barbies maker, has a new ceo who is eager to make his mark.

Could the "leaked memo" be something more sinister? Corproate espionage, just in time for the Christmas season!!

Hmm...Barbies can be used by pedos...

sounds to me like we need to make more barbies then...rather them be molesting barbie than a kid...

I kid.
Seriously...they need to drop the sex crimes voodoo crap. parents, be parents, and government, get the f out...anything can be a pedo tool...stop trying to create a false epidemic so you can easily remove liberties and stamp down totalitarian control on the people...in the name of some deadbeat parents who want the state to protect and raise their kids so they don't have to.

Well, look at the school in PA that abused the webcams on the imacs. That district is right down the street from me, and I have a few friends who were involved with that case. I use a school computer, hell I'm using it now. It doesn't have a webcam, but I expect this to be screen recorded and all that. Now, an unsuspecting little kid might now understand any of that, and little kids don't have much sense. I can see where everyone is getting their ideas that pedophiles would use it.

WTF, they're worried about a god-damn doll when there is a crusade against european servers to be had? God damn, what the hell is going on here.

They should be monitoring the distribution patterns of media across servers as well as using pixel-based logic to figure out locations, probable uploaders, victims, perpetrators, etc.

Oh bugger, I've just advocated information monitoring on ATS. Well, I hope we all can agree that this would be more efficient than relying on volunteers and site moderators to keep things at least somewhat kosher without going over-board and taking down porn just because the actors look young.

WEBCAMS are a much bigger issue, and the information cascades are HUGE. I guess that just makes too much sense. You can literally track who shares what with whom, when it was uploaded across different sites, what sites link to other sites, blahblahblahblahblah whatever. If it doesn't involve money, good luck getting man hours to figure out who the hell is actually behind this stuff. Well, besides the "victims" themselves who often seem unaware that they could get someone jailed for porn of themselves that they sent to their similarly aged counterpart which was later spread due to information cascades. EUREKA! That would be a good topic for sex ed, ethical use of technology. Too bad we Americans are bas ackwards when it comes to sexuality.
