I was wondering, I got this bullet from my oppa's room when he passed a while ago, and I have always been wondering what kind of bullet this is.

I've always told people it was a .50, but I know absolutely nothing about munitions.

Here are a few pictures:

(some reason, the img's won't show, so follow the link)

It is approximately 5 1/2 inches in length (including the projectile/casing),
3/4'' in diameter
the casing itself is 4'' long
and the projectile is 1 1/2''
and the projectile diameter (at the base of the projectile) is 1/2'' in diameter.

I either assumed (because of the size of the bullet) it was either a 50 for a sniper rifle, or a flak bullet... Enlighten me ATS warriors!

Ah yes, there are only 3 markings at the base of the bullet. F A 4

In a few of the pictures, I put an a ak47 round besides it to show a comparison

Well the length matches wiki for a .50 round @ 5.75in
en.wikipedia.org...

The one on the far left is a .50 round:

I'm gunna say yes it is a 50bmg round. Looks very much like it and there aren't many rounds that have the same look as the 50 when it comes to size. There are others that have similar power but the length is what gives the 50 away usually.

I know nothing about guns, but I know how to google!

The FA means FrankFord Arsenal and the 4 means 1944 as far as I can tell

Great, thank you. Now I even know the origin of the bullet

I'm going to assume the 4 stands for 1944, my grandpa was fond of collecting (mostly) ww2 things p:

It looks like a 50 cal dummy round. In the 1950's and 60's you could buy them from Army Surplus stores for 29 cents. They had their sides drilled and the primer pocket was filled.
