America to sell Uranium Mines to Russia

I know this article is from October 7th, but WTF?

What is the point of having a military if we are just going to sell all of our materials for weapons to other countries??

October 7, 2010 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to an article this week in the Washington Times, four leading House Republicans have moved to block the sale of a Wyoming-based uranium mine to a Russian agency.

The deal between Uranium One USA and JSC Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ), a Russian corporation, was featured in the Wyoming Business Report's eDaily on Sept. 21, after the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRC) offered the opportunity to request a hearing and comment on the proposed sale.

ARMZ already owns a 23.1 percent share of Uranium One's common stock and is seeking a controlling 51 percent share in the subsidiary. Uranium One USA currently holds an NRC license for the Irigaray-Christensen Ranch in-situ leach uranium recovery (ISR) facility in eastern Wyoming.

Uranium One Americas, another subsidiary of Uranium One Inc., has applied for new licenses for proposed ISR facilities at Moore Ranch and Jab & Antelope, both in Wyoming. These applications also would be affected by the proposed change of control.

The lawmakers sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to block the sale, citing national security concerns, as the sale would give the Russians control of up to 20 percent of the U.S. national uranium extraction capability along with a controlling interest in one of the nation's largest uranium mining sites. They also expressed worry that Wyoming uranium could end up in the hands of the Iranian government.
