Sea surface temp - is this bad?

Does anyone think these sub-zero temperatures high in North Atlantic are bad?
I can't figure out how to access past records to make a comparison - can anyone else?

Anyone know how come they show completely different results for the same day?

There is a lot of this type of information in the book The coming Global Superstorm by Art Bell I can't remmeber specifically what it says about the water temp though.

The second one is showing absolute temperatures, the first is showing the difference from the mean for this day.

The pattern is fairly normal. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation is in its so-called "cold phase" (warm water in the northwest, cooler in the tropics) and we've got a mild la Nina signature off the South American coast.

That, and the colder than average temperatures off New England & the Canadian maritimes coupled with the slightly warmer than average in the subtropics and tropics argues for a somewhat higher than average landfalling year for hurricanes.
