Of course it is, i got the feeling he was just joking but with a hint of seriousness. If you watched the interview he was smiling and laughing during.

he said it twice though...

anyway..is 'i was joking' a good excuse?

Try saying you have a bomb in your suitcase at an airport, then saying you were just joking. You would be arrested and charged, joking or not. So should this man.

No you didn't, but that is a very good and interesting point!

Um.. What "thousands of leaked readings". You mean the approximately 300? Out of almost a quarter million? You mean the .1% of total documents that have been published?

Its a good thing that you've cracked the aes256 code and have access to the other 99.99% and have read them already. Care to share the password with me?

For the record, Tom Flanagan is no longer an adviser to Steven Harper and hasn't been active with the conservative Party of Canada. since 2006. Therefore he cannot be fired from that job. The title of your thread should therefore read "Julian Assange.... says former adviser to the PM of Canada"

Just a bit of clarity in order to tell the story accurately.

I'm disappointed, always thought Canada was one of the best countries and politicians but shows that rot has started there too. Stay classy Canada!

Then you haven't actually read the cables, just the media reports. Media hasn't reported lott of stuff in the cables. This thread sums them up wisely Wikileaks Cable Disclosure: What The Media Is Not Telling You

This just proves how much of a sellout Canada is.

As a citizen here I have finally had it with my government. They are nothing but sell outs to corporate interests and they are looking for three things.

1) Money
2) Power
3) Control

Simple as that. I am at that point right now where enough is enough and am not afraid to stand up to save my country. If this means a revolution so be it.

This is incredibly sad, from a president its an abhorrent public statement, he should be so ashamed of himself.

I think this is the worst part of all the wikileaks releases, the people in power really showing how truly awful most of them are. I'm sure if there was a public vote, it would be the politicians in front of the firing squad.

He can stand next to Hilliary and Rice, worse than the terrorists.

Truly disgusting!

By definition the person who made this statement is a terrorist. Too bad he'll never be treated as such. Nor will the countless other selfish, cowardly, greedy sacks of excrement - err, I mean politicians and power brokers who, on a daily basis, strike fear and terror into millions of people around the world.

ter·ror·ism
–noun
1.
the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2.
the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3.
a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

May be some terrorists should turn the tables on him, see how he likes it. Hopefully, you will vote him out of office come that time. I guess he's a true Macciavelian: The end justifies the means. No, the end does not justify the means. That is true only if you are amoral, i.e. ruthless and with no ethics and moral.

Assasination is Illegal yes. But not for the US and UK governments. Take for example Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Princess Diana. For the Elite assasination is the usual course of events to shut someone up.

As for this news I heard this morning regarding Julian Assange being hunted by Interpol for a sex crime? This is just an excuse to get him and shut him up.

Wikileaks Founder Hunted By Interpol

If they find him he's as good as dead!!!

Well said.

What really sucks is that he probably will get assassinated. Personally I see nothing wrong with what he's doing. I feel safer as an american with people like him going around and disclosing top secret logs that we all should have a right to see or know about. I like knowing what the leaders of the world are really up to. As our dear friends in Washington like to say, if they're not doing anything wrong they should have nothing to hide.

Flanagan, a University of Calgary professor who once served as Prime Minister Stephen Harper's chief of staff during his days as Opposition leader, has said he regrets his "glib" comment on CBC's Power & Politics with Evan Solomon calling for the assassination of Assange. "I never seriously intended to advocate or propose the assassination of Mr. Assange," Flanagan told the CBC's Solomon on Wednesday. Read more: www.cbc.ca...

He regrets his comment yet doesn't have the decency to apologise! Severe lack of moral culpability.
