Aging in mice reversed?

Telomeres, the caps of DNA which protect the ends of chromosomes, shorten every time cells divide. But cells stop dividing and die when telomeres drop below a certain length – a normal part of ageing. The enzyme telomerase slows this degradation by adding new DNA to the ends of telomeres.

Now how long will it be that we notice that some very rich or very important people are sticking around longer than most other humans? I would not think that this technique if it works on humans would ever be available to the mass population. Not sure I would want it be myself but this could lead to a division of the human population. Think about what this could mean, and it doesn't look pretty for humanity as a whole but could benefit us by having special people around longer than others. Interesting issue to ponder.

Which raises an ugly spectre - longer living humans and a constantly increasing population. One of those two factors will have to give.

I don't mind getting old and dying, I just wish I could LOOK the same for 80 years then die without turning into a hideous prune with thinning gray hair and osteoporosis. ARRRRGGGHHHH!
