Finally, the searchable database is online from Wikileaks.

cablegate....__._/

Wikileaks began on Sunday November 28th publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain. The documents will give people around the world an unprecedented insight into US Government foreign activities.

The cables, which date from 1966 up until the end of February this year, contain confidential communications between 274 embassies in countries throughout the world and the State Department in Washington DC. 15,652 of the cables are classified Secret.

The embassy cables will be released in stages over the next few months. The subject matter of these cables is of such importance, and the geographical spread so broad, that to do otherwise would not do this material justice.

The cables show the extent of US spying on its allies and the UN; turning a blind eye to corruption and human rights abuse in "client states"; backroom deals with supposedly neutral countries; lobbying for US corporations; and the measures US diplomats take to advance those who have access to them.

This document release reveals the contradictions between the US’s public persona and what it says behind closed doors – and shows that if citizens in a democracy want their governments to reflect their wishes, they should ask to see what’s going on behind the scenes.

Every American schoolchild is taught that George Washington – the country’s first President – could not tell a lie. If the administrations of his successors lived up to the same principle, today’s document flood would be a mere embarrassment. Instead, the US Government has been warning governments -- even the most corrupt -- around the world about the coming leaks and is bracing itself for the exposures.

The full set consists of 251,287 documents, comprising 261,276,536 words (seven times the size of "The Iraq War Logs", the world's previously largest classified information release).

The cables cover from 28th December 1966 to 28th February 2010 and originate from 274 embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions.

I am a little upset that they say information will be released over the next few months, as it allows too much time to shut down the information. That said 219 out of 251,287 cables are listed for review currently. Enjoy, and I look forward to more discussions of the information in general in a consolidated location, versus on a cable by cable basis.

This one is interesting and luckily did not come to pass. Qatar warns Iran to comply with nuclear agreement.

-- According to HBJ, the GOQ tells Iran that it should "listen to the West,s proposal or there will be military action. If not by the U.S., then by the Israelis by the middle of next year."

Yes there are date and time stamps to the minute on every document.

Here is one that will make someone's blood boil. From a meeting with Senator Kerry and Qatar's Prime Minister.

Hamas leaders in Damascus and Gaza can accept recognition of Israel, but must calibrate the timing very carefully because Hamas supporters are not ready for this change.

and they plot....

Giving Syria a role would create jealousy among the Arabs, which HBJ said would help the U.S. move talks forward.

So this is how populations are subverted. The leaders of movements cut backroom deals and then manipulate their movement to progressively accept a different attitude.

Reading through these documents I can see the possibility of a world war breaking out as a result of these documents being released. I wonder how wikileaks would feel about their efforts leading to a third world war?

I am not sure a world war would break out...I think it is much more probable that all good people will recognize that many of their leadership use events and decisions to influence the population to support some agenda. I think this is much more of an exposure of government agenda that is different from it's people.

Iran has officially responded to the now only 290 leaked files online, by stating the Wikileaks documents are worthless.

Source

"These documents follow certain political aims and are some sort of intelligence game and, therefore, without any legal basis," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said at a press conference in Tehran.

I am not sure what to think about this. How can Ahmadinejad make up his mind about these documents before they are even released? What does this say about Wikileaks? What does this say about those that believe this whole wikileaks thing is a government front? What does this say about the possibility that Ahmadinejad is playing the same game?
