Pak Daily Times
The plane was an IL76 Russian cargo plane, with flight number MGCC-412. According to aviation sources, it came from the United Arab Emirates and was en route to Sudanese capital, Khartoum. The plane took off at 1:48 am and crashed onto an under construction building in a residential area of Gulistan-e-Johar.
A loud explosion was heard at the time of the crash and the plane, which had a full load of fuel, burst into flames. The building, onto which the plane crashed, was completely destroyed. Rescue, police and other teams, including Pakistan Navy firefighters from across the metropolitan reached the scene of the crash. Thick smoke could be seen rising at the crash site from many kilometers away, the channel said.
Rescue workers were seen fighting the blaze, and the officials said casualities were feared.
Several buildings are said to be ablaze, and there were reports of explosions
Five bodies have been recovered from the crash site, said Muhammad Yasir, a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest rescue service. The aircraft crashed on houses that were under construction so casualties are likely to be minimum, police inspector Shad Ibn-e-Masih said.
