The Strange Case Of Frederick Valentich

Delta Sierra Juliet….These words send chills down my spine, and have been ever since I heard of the strange case of Frederick Valentich. The Australian pilot who during a routine flight had been thrown into one of the most bizarre cases in the annals of Ufology.

I was in my early teens, thirteen maybe, when one late night I watched an episode of Unsolved Mysteries about Frederick Valentich. I’ve been reading about UFOs years before this particular day, but for some reason, this story unnerved me. This was the first time I’ve had heard of an airplane plucked out of the sky by a presumably UFO craft. The UM show played the last known transmission of Frederick Valentich. His haunting voice has stayed with me since.

Mr. Frederick Valentich reported an object that was not an aircraft to Control Tower. Later, people all over started reporting mysterious lights up in the sky. Mr. Valentich disappeared from radar, followed by a metallic sound, normally caused by electromagnetic interference on the radio spectrum. No trace of him has ever been found in 14 years.

Its still one that baffles me today, considering he was in contact with Melbourne ATC at the time he dissappeared. Thanks for revisiting it

Sadly, the original tape of the conversation between Valentich and the Control tower has been lost. I would love to have heard the *strange metallic scraping noise* that was the final part of the transmission.A strange case indeed. They knew almost exactly where his last plot was and ye, even though the sea was almost flat calm, no oil slick, .not a hint of any wreckage.

The fact that there were independent witnesses on land who reported the same object as Valentich claimed was stalking him, adds greater credence to the strangeness of the whole affair. Given the depth is only an average of 170 ft you'd have thought that someone would have had a good look round using a modern diving remote to see if there is any sign of the wreckage.

Is this the guy who Australian reporters repeated his flight path and filmed UFOs?

Interesting thread, this adds more to the notion that Australia was and still is a major hotspot for UFOs. Has anyone heard of the Westall High School sighting? Hundreds of people were involved and the military even had to step in. Best not to hijack this thread though, so i'll be on my way.
