There have been several threads on here about a possible revolution, threads about how one might start and what the effects would be if one were to take place. I think I may have just come up with a possible idea on how to fight one. The current national debt sits at approximately 13.7 trillion and the ceiling on the debt the government can currently rack up is at 14.2 trillion. According to the following article, congress will be forced to vote on raising the debt ceiling around April or May of 2011.

My thought is, “Is there any way we could stop them from raising the limit?” If we could they would be forced to change the way they operate the entire government. They would be forced to cut pork spending. There would be no more borrowing so there would be no more QE. If the government were forced to change the way it did business maybe there would be an opportunity to fix it.

I am not sure if the people are capable of directly stopping a bill from being passed, but if not we have about 6 months to stage one hell of a protest. Of any reason people have had to be angry and to protest, adding more weight to an already unbearable burden that we and our children are going to be left to deal with seems like a pretty good one to me.

What do you guys think, can we stop them from raising the debt ceiling?

Anyone who believes the US Congress is still there for the public benefit they are seriously mistaken. There are some good congressmen (not many though). Most congressmen are only interested in how they can make money, period.

Example:

Bankera lobby for new property foreclosure bill.

Congressman to Banker:
So whats in the bill?

Banker to Congressmen:
I don't know but theres $100,000 in it for you.

Congressman to banker:
That sounds like an important bill, ok i will sign it!

The End.

Congress refused to pass a budget and are operating right now with an open checkbook:

They may have already passed their debt limit. The last Generation robbed us, left us with debt, and now wants us to fund +70 million baby boomers with Social Security.

They should have kept Congress from spending the Social Security Trust Fund. There is no way to fund our liabilities. Unless we spit $1 Quadrillion out of the printing press.

We only collected $900 Billion last year in income taxes. $400 Billion was mailed back. Wasn't even enough revenue to pay the annual INTEREST payment on the Federal debt. The only thing funding the Government right now IS the Printing Press.

Easy fix without a bill. Stop the 2 illegal wars and cut out most of the overseas bases (even Pat Buchanan agrees with this one). Problem solved. We'll have more than enough money for anything after the wide open spigot to unfettered military spending is under control. Simple solution really. No other country spends more than we do on military.

And for those that say we should keep all the miltary spending, then let's charge a fee to each country to be the worlds' police. Debt balanced again. See, not so hard. They're just not trying on Capital Hill.
