Mostly, the commercials are on for it during the day, but it's for Labyrinth-like acrylic balls that are used for contact-juggling....

Basically, the things David Bowie learned how to do during the movie...

The main guy in the commercial and the video (Kenny) is actually an acquaintance of mine, and used to ply his skill in the local Renaissance Festival (in addition to all kinds of other things like being a stilt walker, balloon artist, etc.). So far, looks like he's hit the big time with this company, so more power to him.

Here's a link:

Pretty cool but what's the dillio with how it works? I can see it has something to do with reflective properties, but the vid sounds like it is part of an illusion.
Must know how it works!
I want one

peace,

It is part of an illusion, a damn cool one, because the surface of the ball looks the same from however you view it, it appears that the ball is sliding when you are actually rolling it around your arms, hands, etc.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Kenny is absolutely amazing with them though. He learned how to do contact juggling after seeing it in Labyrinth all those years ago...and he's had years to really perfect it. When Fushigi was looking for some local people to feature in a commercial, he showed up, and they were so impressed by his skills at it, that they basically made him the face of Fushigi....

I've been tempted to try my hand at it for a couple of years, but never got around to it.

There's a girl that does this on the South Bank of the Thames sometimes, but she uses 3 at a time and they are huge ones, glass I think.
It's really mesmerizing to watch, would love to learn how to do it

Yep, he usually has about 5 or so of them with him. They're acrylic (plastic), but they do look like glass. (but don't break when you drop them...though I've never seen him do that, hehe...). He tried to show me once, and I was slightly able to go from one hand to the other, but not that well.

Like anything else, just needs practice and interest I suppose, but also some talent to perfect the illusion and performance of it...

Kind of like stage magic. I know most of the common tricks behind professional magic, but I don't have the drama skills, finesse, and timing to actually pull off anything but minor illusions and tricks. Enough to mess with my friends' kids...that's about it.

Just learned, he's going over to Universal Studios, Osaka, where he'll be doing the contact juggling gig, maybe for a year or more. It's cool to see someone you know make a big splash.
