Religion is a product of humans attempting to perceive the true nature of a being or power which can held responsible for the creation of all existence; a God. While their interpretations of what the nature of God is tend to vary vastly, they are all correct to some degree as God is all things. But none of these interpretations fully represent the creator. God is beyond human comprehension (infinite) and therefore any attempt to truly understand the nature of the creator is futile. The key is to acknowledge that one does not know the truth.

Different religions come to different conclusions on what they perceive the nature of God to be, but they all share the same goal; attempts at explaining the creator. People may worship in different ways, and to what may seem to be different God's. However ultimately all religions worship the same force, that which is responsible for imbuing us with life.

I agree with you, but where do you want to go from here?
Looking at religious beliefs I have come to see them as a destructive part of our human race. We humans fight over things whether it's power, resources, politics, etc. but these are all linked to something material to gain in the fight. Religion, which more humans have died for in history then any one other concept, has no real material gain (unless linked to power). But when you see perfect strangers day to day fighting as if there lives were at stake over issues unfalsifiable and abstract it makes me ask why we are so driven to fight for religious beliefs? Is it something in our dna or is it just bragging rights for which one is right?

I don't understanding why people believe the words it says in the bible when it was written 2000 years ago (more for the old testament) by a group of sheep herders.

A lot of religious people are against homosexuals 'because it says so in the bible.' It also says if anyone curses his mother or father they should be put to death; anyone who works on a Sunday should be put to death; when a woman is on her period she should stay in the shed for 5 days because she is ritually unclean etc. There are countless other examples of rules saying people should be put to death for, which most of the anti-gay brigade choose to ignore

Religion is Positive Energy of our inner self. All nations have this one common factor. Love, Faith, Hope, Respect for ones self and others.
We have achieved where we are today by this belief in all religions.
Male and Female relationships got us here with these basic but extremely effective principles. Every parent knows the greatest gift to life was to create life itself. This is natures cycle!

I agree with you that religion can be destructive.

The only positive purpose which organized religion can possibly serve from my perspective is to open peoples eyes to a reality which does not base itself on earthly things, but even this is diluted by ideological baggage that comes with it. Either way, it seems that the majority does not take any positive message away from religion, instead they develop a complex where they know God nature, and people who follow other paths to God are wrong. All that this division does is pit people against each other in ideological battles when the basic goal of all of these groups are the same; they seek to know the same exact force (the force behind creation/life).

While I do believe in a creator myself, I do not pretend to know the true nature of this force. I imagine it as something beyond the understanding of the conscious mind.

I agree, death to Religion.

It's one of the most disgusting human inventions there ever was, far more destructive than the atomic bomb.

I wish the battles would remain as ideological battles, seldom do people get killed when battling for ideas on god. But organized religion creates wars based on beliefs, these beliefs systems are an infection to our whole race based on our prior history. I would love to know, be a fly on the wall, when and how it all starts to go wrong with each individual religion but these things form in independent groups, spread over vast areas, until somehow they merge. I often compare the new ufo trend to an organized religion, people just 'want to believe' even though there still is no scientific concrete proof they are here. These believers are adamant about the nature of this regardless! Me, I want to believe in ufo's also, but right now I just have a good idea about this topic, like god, also.

Religion and its characters are no more a reality than is Bart Simpson, Santa Claus, or the Tooth fairy.

Religion has ZERO actual evidence anywhere to support it other than man-made (and severely flawed and absurd) holy books, confirmed forgeries, and of course the occasional "voices" in the heads of a few.

It is all GRADE-A silliness when one actually stops and takes a good hard look into it all.

Perhaps this is why the churches of old had to threaten DEATH to folks who didnt submit to its nonsense beliefs. Without some SERIOUS brainwashing mixed with fear, or actual threats of death to your life, how can any somewhat intelligent human being accept that nonsense?

NJEO3,

The scriptures do have an answer if you study His Word enough.

Lu 10:22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

The Son does reveal Him and yes He is beyond our total comprehension but there is an answer, and then we sing "How Great Thou Art".

Truthiron.

Worse than that, Religion/Legalism either leads to self-righteousness or depression.

Either, "I'm good, Godly, and holy and you're not.." or "I can't do it, can't live up to the rules on top of rules, I'm a failure.."

"Religion" never leads to peace in one's own mind.
