When using the ignore function is the ignored member notified by ATS that you are ignoring them?

Why would they be notified? Seems like that would be unnecessary.

You're correct, being free of the dead is enough satisfaction...

Ya, and it would also be kind of a hassle for automatic notification to those who are put on ignore. And also, unnecessary as I mentioned before.

I guess the question would be, why would you want someone whom you are now ignoring to be notified that you are ignoring? How are they supposed to respond?

If they catch on the U2U function still works, and yes Im speaking from personal experience. A certain Floridian ignored me and I realized it after 3 pages of trying to debate him, but he is banned now and gone is his ever constant spamming of the board with politics.

Oh and I remember a certain nut job ignored me once when a group of truth seekers tried to debunk him, but debating him was similar to smoking crack. Bad for your health.

I find the ignore function distasteful in a site that promotes the denial of ignorance. I find it particularly ironic if someone with an avatar with the ATS slogan uses the ignore button. It proves that they have no idea what that phrase truly means and are just including it in their avatar to fit in. Chances are, people ignore others because they don't like what they see. The last picture in my signature sums up what I mean, but here is a verbal explanation anyway.

Sure, there are people I don't really agree with here just as there are many people here who don't agree with me, but that doesn't mean I am going to censor everything they say. They still may have some valid contributions to offer, as I have noticed time and time again. I am not going to name names, but I have often felt positively reinforced when I read something from someone I previously misunderstood or was not in favor of.

I am pretty sure I am one of the most widely-ignored people on this board (or perhaps misunderstood). So in all honesty, my angst against the ignore button is strongly motivated by this premise. I would, however, appreciate that you tell me about it if you do not agree with something I say, via post or U2U. The first line of my signature encourages people to vocalize their opposition towards me. Not because I am looking for a fight, but because I am looking to widen my perception.

I never have used the ignore button, and will not use it at any time whatsoever. I will, however, use the button below it, if I feel that your information is valuable towards this forum, as I have before.

What was that AlnilhamOmega? I was ignoring you. Just joking. I can agree with that. But some members are down right abusive. And they can do a signicant amount of damage before the moderators can respond. After all look at the ratio of members to moderators/super moderators.

I feel the ignore feature is for wimps. Weak debators use this button when they can't state their case well enough, or find that someone has figured they are full of it and proove it in front of everyone.

Isn't that why we all spend hours a day here, to hear everyones BS no matter what. People need to get thicker skin.

Ive heard veteran members say such things as "All those who use the complaint button STFU", and although distasteful that is what I would say to anyone who hits the old ignore button.

Call me what you like, I have ignored 3 members thus far. I see little point in hearing these posters repeat the same tired message over and over and over. This is not called debate, it is called a commercial. I can get that from watching television.

Perhaps your purpose for joining ATS is to enter into contentious arguement with any idiot that can master the use of a keyboard, however your purpose is not my purpose. Also I reject the premise that you are better qualified to determine which features of ATS best serve me or any other member. Type and use ATS as you wish, only your wise words and time will determine whether I continue to hear those words.

How are my weak and wimpy debating skills doing so far at stating my case?

I used the button once. The poster has since been banned. I found it messes with the flow of the thread, so I un-ignored the poster.

It's just as easy to NOT read the offending post.
In the case of posters who I feel should be "talked to" or "taken behind the wood shed", a better way to deal with offensive people is the Suggestion" function in the upper left hand corner.

Bury your head in the sand if you want. Maybe if you ignore enough people only the ones you agree with will be left and then you'll be happy. Go for it! I'm not saying you can't.

Also, who says you have to "enter into a continous argument"? It's not MY puropse, as you said. I never claimed it was my purpose, so stop putting words into my mouth to help your argument. Just skip past the posts that don't interest you. You can't agree with everyone, that's what makes this place what it is. I have found that some that post on certain subjects rub me the wrong way, but then I find them interesting and like what they have to say on other subjects. In fact, if I ignored them then I would have never found that out.

You said, "Also I reject the premise that you are better qualified to determine which features of ATS best serve me or any other member."...there you go again, putting words in my mouth. When did I set a premise that I was better qualified. Perhaps thicker skinned and more understanding, but I never claimed to be more qualified.

You also said, "only your wise words and time will determine whether I continue to hear those words." Well most of what you said I said, I didn't say, so who's words are you judging?

Oh, and to answer your question, "How are my weak and wimpy debating skills doing so far at stating my case?"....my answer - not very good.

Lighten up, open your mind, and just simply scroll past those comments you don't like and maybe next time that person will comment on something you do like.

-peace
