Soon-to-be GOP House Majority Leader Eric Cantor met on Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- the same day when the actual U.S. Secretary of State met with Netanyahu -- and vowed that he and his GOP colleagues would protect and defend Israeli interests against his own Government.

Yes that is correct, the newly elected and soon to be house leader has promised a foreign entity on foreign soil that he will support them against his own President and interest of the country.

So extraordinary is Cantor's pledge that even the Jewish Telegraph Agency's Ron Kampeas -- himself a reflexive American defender of most things Israel -- was astonished, and wrote:

I can't remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president. Certainly, in statements on one specific issue or another -- building in Jerusalem, or somesuch -- lawmakers have taken the sides of other nations. But to have-a-face to face and say, in general, we will take your side against the White House -- that sounds to me extraordinary.

Cantor last month proposed that money to Israel not be classifed any longer as "foreign aid" -- in order to shield it from all cuts. In other words, Cantor wants American citizens to sacrifice in the extreme, to lose all sorts of benefits and security in the name of austerity, but wants to shield Israel -- with a higher standard of living -- from those cuts.

His loyalty and interest does not lie with United States of America but a foreign entity and for them he is even willing to sacrifice American citizens.

You must be kidding, right???

When our own government(note: Obama and cronies) is doing everything it can to destroy Israel who is our only ally in the region...The only democratic nation in the region.....Who only owns a very small strip of land to call as a nation...when all of its neighbors are trying to annilate it who have multiple times the land mass of Isreal.

I applaud Eric Cantor. He understands how important it is to keep Israel as a nation.

AND PLEASE.....Get facts straight about who was there first....

He should be stripped of the office he holds and possibly investigated and charged. That is astonishing. Soon to be House Majority leader pleading allegiance to another country while he holds a very high position in our government and will be 3rd in line to be president if anything happened, that is dangerous..

How is Obama "trying to destroy Israel"?!? Do you have any examples to back this up? He's trying to broker a peace deal that would be not only in Israels best interest, but ours as well. Peace can't be achieved until borders can be negotiated. And borders can't be negotiated until Israel stops building settlements on disputed land.

And as for our only friend in the middle east, since when do allies purposely kill 34 of their "friends" servicemen? (USS Liberty ring any bells?)

And please, nobody is trying to annhiliate Israel. If Iran wanted to nuke them they know they'd be committing suicide.

He should be tried for High Treason. He should be taken into custody immediately and punished as a traitor. If there is actual, solid proof he should be taken out and executed where he stood. I disagree with so many things our govt has done. Theyre evil bloodsuckers that need to be forcibly removed if need be....BUT, this is my country and anything that puts our home in danger, puts children in danger needs to dealt with promptly.

The only thing about this that shocks me is that it is made public. Isn’t this already known knowledge about how the Neoconservatives operate? We should already know our capital is Tel Aviv and not Washington.

Anyone who dares to question this is an Anti-Semite and maybe they should be investigated by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Our new pledge of allegiance is to Israel, our flag means absolutely nothing anymore and neither does our constitution or our heritage.

Steve Benen correctly argues that "this is a legitimate scandal worthy of far more attention"; the fact that it won't receive any real attention tells you all you need to know. Had Cantor done this with any foreign nation other than Israel, this would easily be the leading political controversy of the week.

Ironic. Especially considering the fact that he accused Pelosi of treason under the Logan Act for doing something similar:
