I hope no-one minds me starting this thread, i'm not a US marine, but had the pleasure of spending time with them back in my forces days.

There have been many debates over the years about the worlds best troops, and although opinions are often divided on this subject, the USMC is usualy somewhere in the discussion.

What always impressed me was the comaraderie of this unit. We are always proud of our own units, but these guys seem to have a deeper level to their bond, something which doesn't seem to dwindle even when they leave the forces.

So rare as it may be to hear a Brit praising US troops
, i just wanted to wish all the serving and ex USMC members around the world, and especially here on ATS, a happy 235th anniversary.

Happy 235th Birthday Marine Corps (Video included in article)

Birthday message from the Commandant of the Marine Corps

I'm sure our ex and serving USMC members here can add to this thread better than i can, maybe with a little history, personal experiences or just a nod, so i'll bow out whilst raising a beer to you all.

Cheers.

I'm not a Marine but I'm sure that "Ex-Marine" is something that doesn't exist. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

Btw, thank you Marines.

You are 100% correct..

"Former" Marine is the most often used term... I prefer "Formerly Active" Marine myself..

I shall ALWAYS be a Marine..

And yeah... SEMPER FIDELIS

You're quite right, intrepid. I have a very close friend who is all too quick to remind me of such when I misspeak the same - it's Former Marine, thank you very much.

Happy Anniversary and Semper Fi to ALL those who've served The Corps!

... especially to one Cpl. Seamus Garrahy

Happy Birthday and thank you so very very much.

You are all vastly under-appreciated.

I made the wrong choice and joined the Navy over the Marine Corps, served with many Marines and the leadership they showed is second to none. Happy Birthday USMC!

Apologies for that....should have known better there.

Nice to see so many coming out of the woodwork.

Not at all.

Why does the start of that music make me wasnt to jump out of bed in a panic and clean things?
