Journalists from 40 Countries Join in Support of Wikileaks

Journalists from every region of the world have joined together to support the whistle-blowing organization Wikileaks and its founder Julian Assange who, they say, have provided an extraordinary resource for journalists around the world and made “an outstanding contribution to transparency and accountability on the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars”.

I am one of the organizers of the campaign.

The journalists, many of whom are prominent investigative reporters, come from countries as diverse as Russia and Namibia, and Israel and Indonesia, plus many from European countrie

Another interesting development re Wikileaks.

It's good to journalists expressing this support for Assange, and also good too to see them standing up to TPTB bullying.

I know many people have expressed doubts about Wikileaks, and of course I respect their opinion, but I don't share that view.

I'm happy to live and let live - and I'm pleased to see Assange getting some much needed support.

wiki has had alot of bad press around the place of late
i think its more of a discreaditing type operation than people losing faith
im glad there is more support for these guys
hopefully this will be towards less war and corruption
and more prosicution

the freedom of nformation and the true actions during this war need to be given to the populous. So glad to finally see some support.

Who is Wikileaks...kinda rings a bell? Oh yeah, the rock start whistleblower guys who exposed earth shattering information a couple of weeks ago which everybody already forgot about. Looks like they can use a louder whistle.

I agree with you about the PR; nice to see Assange get a royal butt kissing from some people who know a thing or two about butt kissing. WikiLeaks can use all the publicity it gets in this down economy, because the market for mind blowing Top Secret Classified information is not what it used to be.

Am I happy to hear this, this implies that there are so many journalists on a leash world wide and they're yearning to break free and really do their job, what they were trained to do, the writer in them in high school that wanted to make a difference and not be a part of the NWO machinary.

And you know what, they're so talented they could do it. Supporting wikileaks is great. But why not pool up together and start your own grassroots news papers. We need to create our own media. I would buy those papers myself.

Be true to your hearts, and speak the truth and reclaim that wonderful childhood dream.

Heartfelt to read of peer support for the beleaguered Assange. Hard for him to fight a battle with so many fronts without the help of others who also give up much for truth. Godspeed.

Yes. I found it encouraging to see that there still were so many investigative journalists and investigative journalist organisations, and see them speaking out. You might well be right in your observation. Perhaps they are really chomping at the bit to be able to do what they do best.

This reminds me of a movie or show I seen once...
two enemies were going at it..and some other "neutral" force that appeared neutral did things that hurt one of the two enemies....the opposing enemy glorified it...then the "neutral force" turned around and did things to hurt the other enemy, and the enemies of those enemies applauded that..then the neutral force did the same thing to the last enemy that applauded their efforts..and eventually the whole world was against them.

Wikileaks is going to do this to every government and find themselves dead all because they want to be self righteous and release information any body with a brain already knew.

No - Wikileaks is going to do this to Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, selected CIA, NSA etc. who crossed the line way back when they decided that warrantless wiretapping was ok. There's a biblical principal in this...something like "what you do to the least..." not well quoted but you get the point. You may feel safe but tonight or tomorrow when you're driving to the corner market or on your way to work, because of the Patriot Act and by it's very definition you can be picked up, taken to a foreign country, tortured, murdered - all without ever being guilty of anything and without anyone ever knowing. Think about that. I have since the many years ago when I started e-mailing my senator on the warantless wiretap.

No, not really, I saw the thread about that but didn't read it and now can't find it. Maybe you could refresh with the name of that so I can bring it up on a search. BYB (by the by) Russia is a closed system and has no free press so whatever comes out of there is what Russia wants us to know. Investigative journalists there still pay dearly for their stories and are often not able to return because of what they write.

Considering what is being said on this thread, I'm quite surprised at the lack of flags. This is a wonderful show of support and a cry for freedom and truth in journalists around the world. It should be getting a strong message out.

Julian Assange and wikileaks are a very interesting group, they seem to be doing what almost no one else has ever done and that is, to stand up for what they believe and have no fear in doing so.
Yes, they could be part of a CIA operation as well, but in the end the actions of this group will be the trigger for more groups like them to come forward with and have no fear in sharing the truth.

OF COURSE foreign journalists love American Top Secret info being spewed all over the planet. It's in fad to hate America and anything that can bring us down, or weaken us, would make those foreigners reeeeeeeally happy, I'm sure.

More publicity for wikileaks. Assange must be pretty scared about germany he is having to pull his *playa* card get all these new *journalist* behind him.. More money funding is what Assange wants and he HATES anybody who disagrees with him IMO he is not making nothing transparent, assange is making a moral high ground set for every government while he does what ever he wants to people. That be it his own crimes against humanity, or illegally leaking so called documents that don't tell us a thing.

Even if the information “weakens us,” which is debatable, do you honestly believe people are interested in the information just because it pertains to the United States, or is it, maybe, because of the illegal conduct and policies described in it?

I find it intriguing that the people trying to mitigate the importance of Wikileaks’ actions by arguing the information disclosed “is nothing new,” are the same people saying the United States is ‘weaken’ by its release. If it’s “nothing new” then the release of the documents doesn’t change people’s opinion of the United States, since “everyone already knew.” You can’t have it both ways.

And what’s with this obsession with foreigners? I’m an American and I’m glad the information has been released because I think the American people deserve to know what their government is doing in their name.

Failure to report a crime, in most states, is itself a crime. Shame on us that one of our own felt he had to go to a foreign news source to report a crime. Silence is still tantamount to consent.
