For America, I believe our democracy is a sham. Because it seems to me that most people believe democracy, freedom, and equality is conforming to a
"social norm". It's a facist government with people thinking that voting and a majority rule is "freedom". It's not. I believe, if you want to
go the democracy way, at least for America, that you need a small main branch government with the states and those people, in those states, want for
that particular area. Not a majority rule, conform or deal with it. The main, SMALL government can decide on some basic rules, I would go the way of
the constitution, for the states. The states can then go into more detail about what their citizens decide and what they deem acceptable punishments
or "slaps on the wrist", an example would be marijuana and growing of hemp. If western states didn't have any problem with these items but people
on the east coast didn't then they can change and control their own laws.
But when you have a government that controls the entire population and makes decision based on a majority, that's not a true democracy promoting
freedom and equality. That is what I would consider facism and if that's what people want, then don't get near me because I won't conform to
"social norms". At least with a somewhat divided country where people could take pride in their own state without having to force morals and values
on other states, we could have a divided country, to some extent, while allowing people to be happy and content and want to protect what we believe
in, as a whole, democracy. We would be unified due to people not being forced to accept others' values or morals while keeping unified due to our
ability to the fact that we could choose where we wished to stay, like we do now, only the states would be more diverse due to the people living their
and what those who choose to stay there feel and believe and how they choose their leaders.
A country with a diverse amount of states that allows people to believe in what they're choosing for themselves instead of conforming the entire
nation is what I would consider democracy. The only real problem I find with America, at least, is that the government just wants to control the
entire population and put the mind set into the same exact thing for everyone, which WILL NOT WORK. And that, in my opinion, is just a form of facism
that promotes the thought of; if you're not with us, then leave us, and does not promote freedom, equality, or democracy.
