Obama's India visit will deliver jobs back home: US media

President Barack Obama's India visit has been successful in creating thousands of jobs for Americans; which was one of the major factors for the shellacking received by his Democratic party in mid-term polls, US media said on Sunday. "Days after reaping the political consequences of a poor economy, President Obama announced a set of measures on Saturday to increase trade between the United States and India, his first stop on an Asian tour focused largely on promoting economic growth at home," The Washington Post said. "Obama's remarks placed the US economy at the center of his first extended foreign trip this year, and highlighted the political challenge he faces in promoting economic policies abroad that divide Americans at home, including many within his own party," the daily said. "Eager to fend off any criticism that he's globe trotting just days after a disastrous midterm election, President Obama unveiled about USD 10 billion in new contracts for US exports to India on Saturday as he launched an aggressive push to show his trip to Asia will deliver jobs back home," CNN said.

every 10 billion dollar deal is around 50,000 jobs for Americans. i think the target was to complete 30 billion dollars worth of agreements with India, which would span a length of 5-10 years for India to pay this amount to the US. i thought the Boeings were supposed to be for the Indian Airforce though.

Somewhat confused here....America was working, not too long ago...then we outsourced our jobs to India because it was cheaper to pay workers there...Now, Obama has won some 53,000 jobs for jobless Americans???

Why didn't we just keep them in the first place??? What wages will the Americans be paid and where will they work out of...India, so the overhead can be kept low???

Something isn't adding up. Have to wait and see what is really going on.

BTW...don't forget the famous quote: ARBEIT MACHT FREI...we all know what happened there...

well yeah the CEO's of 200 corporations from the US met with the CEO's of Indian corporations. just so you know, its not any politicians that are with Obama while he is touring in Mumbai, its only CEO's. And i thought previously that the 10 billion dollar deal was actually supposed to be for weapons, aircraft, and defense technology, and thats why they wanted to get India to increase its investment in US defense tech to 30 billion, so that the jobs will last longer in the States and will continue to have a source of income for about 10 years.

Hell, even at the suggested $200m per day this still would have been better than the $trillions wasted on a stimulus that created few jobs!!!
And better yet, I dont think Obama can write up executive orders while away.

Win/Win in my books so lets hope he stays away..

Still The job loss started a long time before Obama got into power. I think it is a start. However it will not be enough for the neocons. I can hear the Tea Partiers talking up a storm. Accordingto the UK's Guardian newspaper when he comes back he has to talk to the opposition about more tax cuts for the rich!

What a load of garbage ! There are no jobs until those jobs are actually full , don't count your chickens before they hatch . I'll believe it when I see it and not a minute before ! Talk, talk and more talk. I would love to be wrong and happy to appoligise but somehow I don't think I'll be eating my hat anytime soon .

Well people that think Obama might actually do something that is not bad for us are probably going to run out of things to say pretty quickly as only debate leads to more and more posting by the same people. I have a feeling most Obama haters will just avoid this thread like the plague while they are busy discussing fairy tales they heard from Michael Savage. So I thought I would bump it. Anything that brings jobs to the US is a good thing but I am sure people will find a way to make this negative or just not get any play.

Not to be overly negative about this.

But let's look at some rough numbers.

26,000,000 people unemployed.
55,000 jobs created
---------------
25,945,000 - Still unemployed

55,000 is 1.43% of 26,000,000

So, in essence, it's like whizzing on a forest fire.

Not to mention, these jobs still need to be created, and such.. so even still, will be months or longer before these openings are available.

So in essence, whizzing in a bucket and shipping it across the solar system to put out a fire on another planet.

Either way tho, i suppose every tiny little bit helps.

(Forgive any math errors it is late here, I'm tired.. )

Unfortunately there are members on ATS who will hate Obama regardless of what he does. I guess there is a hidden agenda at work...

not me brother. even though im not american, and even though i usualy hate his guts for ruining your powerfull country. if he manages to get that many jobs for americans,i would consider my opinion of him.
i dont care if he sells weapons or what kind of dirty deals he makes,if the people get jobs, and america gets stablizied, then he is a good president.

Yes I agree, jobs are being lost at an higher rate. But atleast he is trying something, atleast the rate will be lower and if he can do this with more countries other than India maybe he can get all the lost jobs back. A poster mentioned that all the job loss started before he came to power. At least he started something new.

This is hard for most Americans to accept but India will never send jobs here, or will any other country.
The president washes over and feeds the stupid in this country so badly it will make you cry and laugh all at once.
The only way GM,India, China whoever will ever do anything here is if we have a wages and benefits of a 3rd world country. Until then we can NEVER compete with that-EVER.
But to the aware observer we might be a 3rd world country very soon….

I sadly doubt that any of these newly created jobs will be for the average unemployed Americans, I think these jobs will be created in high tech sectors and fields which will at least require degree in Engineering or any other highly technically specialised skills.

But hey! that is just what I think!

That's nice and all, but I'm sorry if I'm not overly impressed. 457,000 people filed for first time unemployment benefits in the most recent WEEK, which has been about average this year. That's bad enough, but combine that with 100,000 residential foreclosures per month, and all I can say to Obama is too little, too late.
