addictive substances purposely manipulated in food

I have been shocked because I had to put my 19 year old cat on dry cat food because she has loose stools and cannot take rich real meat diet any longer. As a treat I allowed my other cats to have 10 pellets of dry food and that tiny amount put them all off their real meat for 3 days - they would rather starve than eat good food

does that sound like addiction to anyone here?

my cats were begging for food but when i gave them their regular fresh food they have been eating for 10 years my cats refused and instead begged for the manufactured dry cat food that I was feeding my old 19 year old cat in a different room. My cats refused to eat for 3 days, choosing to have nothing at all and begging me to give them the dry food

so what addictive substances are companies putting in cat food so cats prefer to starve rather than eat real food ever again?

what I found horrified me and it will horrify you too. the companies have been playing with your foods and changing the ratio of substances that are like opiates to us - like heroin in other words.

and that is why it is so hard to return to real food again once you succumb to even a little food that the food chemists have manipulated to addict you

that is also the reason why you cannot lose weight and why we have food allergies

read these links

danmahony.com...

and

www.13.waisays.com...

and quoting from above

So ,what would you think that they did ,knowing that milk contains addictive opioid peptides ?

They were pre-calculating their profits of course;

If you can make everybody drink formula milk in their first, very vulnerable, years of their lives, they will be hooked on food products containing cow's milk-opioid peptides for the rest of their lives. Can you see the huge market they saw ?

And they continuously did ,and they still do, try to make women in the poorest countries give their babies formula milk.

And do you know who own those factories producing formula milk ?

Yes, .......large food-manufacturers.

They don't care that people in those poor countries have little money to buy formula milk ; they are creating a new market for all their other products. Profits guaranteed

I have had cats my whole life and they all ate both the dried and canned food. I think you need to relax.

If the 19 year old is the perceived Alpha cat, often the rest of the herd will follow suit.

Just my 2 cents

the point I am making is that companies are manipulating our food to make us addicted to their brand to maximise profits

the 19 year old is not an alpha cat and never has been

Sounds logical, OP..do your cats hunt?
Mine will eat anything, actually, and they've been fed dry food all their lives. But they also will eat human food, especially fried chicken..lol. They also hunt, as in birds, mice, etc..so maybe your cats just think of the "new" food as a delicacy?

I have four cats and have had some of the same problems when I had to switch their foods. In the manufactured foods in Corn Gluten, Corn Meal, and I forget some of the others. Look at the labels and you will see what I mean. I think my Siamese is allergic to Corn Gluten so I have to watch what I feed her or she will start itching. But they use these a fillers.
I would assume it is like us eating sugar? But not sure about that.

Sorry Snippy just trying to throw out an idea.

If you have in fact stumbled upon some great and diabolical conspiracy it may help to have millions of other cat owners claiming identical problems. Since we're only on the 7th or 8th post to your thread perhaps I should wait a while for the rest of these cat owners to show up.

ps: match dot com may help you bridge the gap during these trying times

Have you tried fish?
My cat won't eat much red meat, but he loves raw turkey or yellow-fin tuna sushi.
He also has a cup of unhomogenised biodynamic milk each day.
He gets some cat food, but only the best.

At 12, he still bounces around, climbs trees, and runs around under my bed upside-down, (holding onto the underside of the bed with his claws,) like he did as a kitten. And his fur is like mink.

He has a good selection of weeds in the garden which he nibbles too.

Pet foods, baby foods and fast foods . . . none of them can be trusted.

that is the point I am trying to make - that through watchign my cats behaviour I have googled and found that companies in fact tinker with the ratios of certain substances in the foods they manufacture in order to target the same receptors in our brains as heroin targets so that we will keep buying their product even if the product is devoid of nutrients

This is a great conspiracy - we thought we should beware Genetically modified food but here it looks like companies have been modifying food for their profits for a long time

I hope this helps those who are allergic and also those who find it hard to lose weight etc

no my cats do not hunt

as I live in Australia it is considered that Australian fauna is too delicate to have introduced predator species like cats hunting freely

my cats are in a cat proofed back yard and have no opportunity to hunt.

I am sure that Cats have their own tastes and preferences.
The young cat im familiar with 3yrs old, will only eat te cheap cat food(no brand name) but will also eat dogffod as she was raised with a puppy and tey shared theeir dishes.....real buddies these two.
She wont touch any real food, not chicken or beef, but will eat canned tuna from time to time.
I think it likely that cats have very definate tastes, unlike dogs or other animal

From what I was told you are never supposed to feed your cat meat that is more than 3 hours past the time of death of the animal. Unlike dogs who can eat meat that is in the stages of decomposition the gasses in decaying meat is toxic to cats. I was seriously admonished by a holistic vet for feeding my cat a raw diet. He said unless you butchered it yourself and feed it to your cat with in 3 hours you are poisoning your cat with the chemicals that start the decaying process.

My guess is your cat may know what it is eating is somehow bad for it. I know my cats don't have this because they will try to eat things they shouldn't, but you never know.

I can not verify the truth about this, so I can only tell you what I was told.

Edit to say, I don't disagree with you at all that our food is being messed with.

Now where did I hear cats are finicky? I had a cat santurary for 12 years and the pattern I saw most of the time was that they all liked dryed cat food. Only one or two liked canned tuna - they all liked chicken and what little bit of red meat I would give as a treat. I never gave canned cat food to any because it always seems to upset their tummies or case loose stools. Most of them not liking tuna and fish is what amazed me the most, as I am sure feral cats would eat it. I know the products put into dry food aren't that good (I always bought the best I could for them). Just as with people food its getting difficult to find anything that is healthy to eat. My now 3 month old kitten is doing great on dry food - I let her have a little bit of chicken when I prepare it - she loves that too and it doesn't upset her system. Just my 2 cents and DJ now sitting in my lap says meow!

This should be in the Breaking News forum, if anywhere, as the conspiracy connection here is weak...

"Cats are fussy eaters but hunger strike is not in their vocabulary" (Garfield)

It sounds like they've all got an upset stomach, maybe a virus of some kind.
I would suspect the dried food is less rich and easier to digest.

My cats will eat anything. Meat, dried, birds, mice, crisps, cheese, pasta, peas pretty much anything.
