BEIJING (Reuters) - China's quarantine bureau confirmed on Tuesday it had discovered traces of an unapproved genetically modified organism (GMO) in a U.S. corn cargo and had refused it entry into China.

"A genetically-modified element which is not approved by the Agriculture Ministry has been identified in the cargo and according to the relevant State Council regulation, the cargo will be returned," an official with the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau told Reuters, confirming an earlier Reuters report.

great news for me, i'm organic....real organic( five feet deep raised beds with hay from the farmers field buried down there!)

There also having problems with GMO crops in India. Things go well for a year or two, then all the Monsanto chemicals kill the topsoil. You see topsoil, the living thing that it is...is only 6-8" deep. Weeds bring minerals into the soil. If you were savy enough, you would know that this particular weed draws potasium into the soil, another.. Another mineral. So with this knowledge one can know what the soil needs by what type of weed is present. (See Biodynamic farming-Rudolph Steiner) The demise of Monsanto's evil plan, warms the cockles of my heart. Organic farming will reestablish balance. Mother Earth is a living, sentient being. We need to treat her as such or there will be dire consequences.reply to post by wcitizen

this is good because GM food is unhealthy.
this is bad because our food is GM.
if corn crops begin to fail, prices soar for everything.
thats only corn.
but corn is subsidized! prices are fixed so that corn has a steady value in the market!
not when a government can't afford to subsidize.
growing completely new organic farms will be hard as superweeds are well, super, as well as the bugs that destroy drops. they don't say super for nothing.
Organic means no pesticides.
Pests destroy organic food. In other words, its harder to produce. Meaning less food, with more demand.
And if i remember correctly, theres that little trade agreement called the Codex Alimentarius which allows the cultivating of organic food reserved to localities, making organic food a regional delicacy, if you see what i mean. and how organic seed prices would skyrocket when everyone wants to try to become subsistent.
i mean it just goes on and on.

Think about this then.

We all know how dangerous GM crops are. They cross pollinate and there's just no good way to stop it.

If the GM crops threaten corn to a point where it could destroy all natural strains, there is only one recourse. The same recourse they show for zombie outbreaks. Quarantine and sanitize. What if that's deemed to be the entire midwest? Evac and displacement of over 1/2 the country would be impossible.

Tie this in with the rest of things going on, and you start to see things in a scary new light.

Flagged. Thank god mother nature is helping mankind to destroy evil. I am afraid though that Monsanto will come up with something else.

Wouldn't that just be poetic justice if mother nature herself singlehandedly wiped out the crap GMO plants? But I am sure GMO is not going to give up that easy, they will probably just splice some more crap together that will have some kind of weed repellant trait if they can.

Wait until Monsanto is sued for the health damage produced by these GM crops. They will go belly up. That is what happens to companies that forget about people while they chase more profits.

One thing: you might want change your wording a little. I know you didn't mean anything by it, but I couldn't help but laugh at that!

Like an investor does not buy the stocks of a single, most profit making company, but minimises the risks by spreading his investment over a large number of companies from different industries, we need to make sure that the food supply to us is not dependent on a single strain of vegetaion.

Now see, I find myself in a limbo over GMO's. Overpopulation will eventually be a huge crisis and we'd need someway of feeding the masses. If they continued research and perfected a way that is healthy and safe, I would be on board.. For the time being, I am not. Nature > GMO.

Well, I guess it's a good thing that Monsanto diversified their portfolio and bought out the vast majority of Heritage Seed Companies then. They stand to profit no matter what happens...devious bastages!

Topsoil...is the best form of natural pesticide and herbicide. It may take 500 years to make but it only takes 5 years of not rotating your crops and erosion from industrialized farming to destroy.

It's odd how every potential market for U.S. crops openly bans GMOs yet the U.S. so openly embraces GMOs. I guess that's what happens when the U.S. teaches their children that Darwinism is a myth even though we can see the direct outcome of what happens when you genetically modify a crop to be toxic to insects and those insects which survive become immune.

Yes, an Indian panel wrote a pretty scathing report about Monsanto, its seeds, its practices and its making a mockery of scientific data.

I totally agree with you about Mother Earth, and she needs some TLC right now.
