The sun flips its magnetic poles. The Earth has also flipped its magnetic poles. There is no reason to believe that anything happens outside of the inner core when the magnetic reversals, the proper name for these events, occurs.

This is not a physical flip of the sun, nor of the Earth. If that is what you think this means, then you need to go back and read the article about the sun.
