YB-22

It is supposed to be bigger than the F/A-22 and it will have a large delt wing no tail and it will still have super cruise ability and could reach mach 1.8 or mach 2.0 check the link above for more info.

It was also cancelled as a project. The Airforce will not be purchasing any FB-22 variants.

I don't think it ever got off the drawing board. It was just a proposal. However, it may be considered at a future date along with the B-3 or the Hypersoar

instead of waisting more of the taxpayer's money by developing the B-3, why not build more B-2's? It has extremely advanced technology and could become easier and cheaper to produce by incorporating JSF technology. the B02 production line is still going, so allot more could be produced faster and more cheaply than starting from scratch on a new bomber.

The production line is cold. The startup costs would be huge and unless they are willing to by triple digits, the per unit cost would gag a donkey. You think 2 billion a copy is steep wait till the new one start rolling out.

The other reason to move foreward with development is that while the B-2 kicks ass now, eventually detection technology will catch up with it. Better to have a new craft with adaptive coloring, high speed and ultra long range.

Actually Northrop have stated that they could produce 25 more B2s for less cost than the origional run. They never really closed down the origional production line due to the amount of maintenance a B2 requires and the block upgrades done on older B2s.

Yes, they said it could be built for 752 mil.$ per piece. Plus there are some talks about upgrading B1 and B2 with laser defence system simmilar to JSF Raytheon 100kw laser.

Here in the UK, we are discussing the FOAS sysem to replace the Tornado with something bigger faster more bombs etc etc.

With the UK and USa working on the JSF together I dare say that the FOAS will be a joint effect between the USA and the UK.

the UK is not working with the US on the JSF they are simply going to buy some after it is produced thats all.

well the b-3 as i understand will cost less and have world range so it'll be much easier to operate.

BAE is working with the Lockhead as one of the major subcontractors. And it is highly possible they are consulting some things of the VTOL design with them.

True, the FB-22 was canceled, HOWEVER, th X-44 Manta is a variant of the FB-22 and it has not been canceled, if you look, they are both the same...

I don't think the FB was ever beyond the what if stage, they did lable the 22 F/B to try to claim it had air to mud potential. The X-44 is a pretty cool plane and shows were the thinking is headed

Westpoint the UK has been working with the US on the JSF since 1996, the lift engines have british bits and BAE are contributing a lot of real cool stuff!

The STOVL element of JSF is mainly the responsibility of BAE and Rolls Royce within the JSF team. Look at Lockheeds own website where it shows you that the UK is a partner in the programme not a customer of it. Obviously our requirement in terms of numbers of aircraft is much smaller than the US requirement and our programme share reflects that, which is fair and why we are the leaders in the Typhoon despite what the Germans think
