Yes indeed ... and if you think you can run and try to patent somewhere else etc... even if you renounce your citizenship the government can still tax you and I have a feeling that trying to leave and patent somewhere else could be construed as "treason" and get you eliminated with prejudice.

the national security dodge especially now that eminent domain can be used for corporate interests pretty much means anything that makes someone besides the Crony kleptocrats and their buddies money is Dangerous.

The reality is this has cost our country more every year... and we are QUICKLY losing our R and D edge to country's that actually benefit those that invent.

It's been proven many times over that when there is no benefit to inventing and when people know their hard work will not benefit them or their families... they don't bother.

Add to that if you even own a chemistry set you MUST be making a Meth Lab. In some states even owning such equipment is a crime and simple chemicals like sulfur have been outlawed in many states because you are making illegal fireworks. Just go to a science shop and show me a decent chemistry set today... Labs in high school? Many of those are gone. To dangerous because little Johnny might get a burn from a bunsen burner and the parents will want to sue someone because their brat stuck his hand in the flame

That is why Russia had such a hard time with Communism... The state did everything for you, no need to think... and no reward for initiative... so why bother, just keep the vodka flowing.

Well yawl have your beer and Monday night football... so no worries eh?
And your kids spend their lives inside their rooms with the video games and chat rooms and when they do step out, they tune out the world with ipods and texting

This is also why nations will not extend patent protections past 20 years.

So many times inventors die penniless and in obscurity even though they did invent something remarkable. Many times an idea can be so far ahead of it's time that it takes decades to realise what was actually done. By the time there is a use/need for the idea the restrictions have expired and anyone can use it for free.

I have to take my hat off to people like Nicola Tesla, inventors who live long enough to see thier work revolutionize the world and yet they don't even get a mention let alone a paycheck.

I'd snap.

Personal Disclosure: This Thread makes me so furious that I can barely contain my wrath and rage!

Here is why...

WHY the
are we spending mega-amounts of money on bizzaro wack stuff that is... yes damnit IS! being used to kill people, [ :bnghd: ] WHEN....

Article 1.
•All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Now if I know my brother is spending a large percentage his paypacket[?] on bizzaro wack stuff that is... yes damnit IS! being used to kill people and one of these people is potentially me, then I'm instantly calling foul on that as it pushes me automatically to my last restort...

Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,

Because it either directly attacks any/several/all of the 4 freedoms declared here, or greatly increases the chances that they will be attacked...

Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people,

Universal Declaration of Human Rights [un.org]

P.S. Hey big bro... I'm telling Mum and Dad on you!
[psst I hate dobbers, but I hate you so freaking much more ya

P.P.S. And to get an idea of what I called big bro... well what do you get when ya slam the united nations [UN] into the middles of a conspiracy theory [CT]???

In other words, it has to get past the DoD before it gets to the patent clerk.

With a program like that... how is any 'out of the box' scientist ever going to get the goods out to us?

You have that right, from time to time some of these scientists talk about their projects in interviews and because they are not officially sanctioned people don't believe them, my question to those non-believers is this why would they talk about these developments and inventions anywhere in the public sector and jeopardize their careers and funding if they weren't true?

Most of the listed technology areas are closely related to military applications. But some of them range more widely. Thus, the 1971 list indicates that patents for solar photovoltaic generators were subject to review and possible restriction if the photovoltaics were more than 20% efficient. Energy conversion systems were likewise subject to review and possible restriction if they offered conversion efficiencies “in excess of 70-80%.”

That's the one that got me. SO basically if you make anything even mediocre in the realm of energy then your invention goes under review?

I mean 20%?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? 20%!!!!!!!!!!!!

The entire fallacy of the patent system being there to help inventors is such a crock...

With the way our system is set up currently and with the way the legal precedents surrounding it have broken down... the only people to benefit from a patent these days are CORPORATIONS because as has been stated by others patent protection is 20 years so corporations just wait you out if they can't buy you out.

And that's without the shenanigans that go on at the patent office and etc...

We need a patent system that is geared towards not just protecting IP but getting NEW STUFF OUT THERE and used by people... WE need provisions built in that set up systems for others to use your patent for a reasonable fee without each deal costing millions in lawyering (every dollar spent on lawyers is a dollar the inventor doesn't get and two dollars extra to the ending price of the invention)

If we had a system that encouraged cooperation and cross pollination of technology we would be back to an era of technology EXPLODING onto the scene so fast it's amazing!!

I can not whole heartedly agree with the not in national security interest view...

I know the system as it is is broken and needs revamping.

However their are a few items in my upcoming collection that will not be made public once the models are built. the potential to weaponize them is to great. They will be easy to build because I was able to build them.

one of them can make the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like amateur nigh t at the Apollo. Its a by product of nanoresearch.

one the other side of the coin, their are multiple times the powers that be have used the office of the patents to rob inventors of their truly earned money.

Do I believe a lot of the solutions to the worlds problems are sitting under the national security lid...

yes

Is it to protect big business interest?

yes

In conclusion of my rant

The only reasoning I can sea logically is what happened during/after WWII... The Russians STOLE a large part of the nuclear research from the united states...

This thread has a good point that I have not seen any documents over criteria for NS classification.

Sorry for the off topic post, but you write "yawl" a lot and it's been driving me nuts. I'm from the south BTW.

Great thread. Star and Flag.

Worse yet, they publish certain inventions in the MSM only for them to disappear. This is a key part I'd guess, because when they are released nobody can blame anyone for holding it back as the blame will be shoved onto the public. After all, it was in the NEWS!

When it comes to Nukes and missile tech ... meh we had a president trade the entirety of a database on our nuclear warfare info for money to pay for his reelection campaign....

So the whole soviets stole our nuke tech by requesting patent info dodge is a big fat FAIL

Interestingly enough that same president in an operation refered to as Red Dragon in cooperation with a chinese general imported double digit millions of dollars worth of chinese AK clones into the US shortly before he signed the EMERGENCY assault weapon ban... LOL

Never been able to figure out how much he pocketed off of that deal but I'd guess it's in the 3 to four digit millions ....
Yes kids William Jefferson Clinton is responsible for all of this and MORE....
Million mom march (or as I called it the million moron march) funded and ORGANIZED by white house personnel with FEDERAL FUNDING 100% of the costs. oh and they didn't get nearly a million to show up to march... Then there's the head of that whole thing who is now in PRISON on Gun charges plus attempting to hire a hitman and Distribution charges....

But yeah enough about one of my least favorite Politricks purveyor family. (his wifey's nickname for the secret service was her PERSONAL LITTLE PIGGIES) Nice people eh?

Our nuke secrets are not safe... never have been. We are a source of more nuclear proliferation than any other nation on earth when you look at it... Israel south africa ... others.
