NYT: Now some of Julian Assange's own comrades are abandoning him

LONDON — Julian Assange moves like a hunted man. In a noisy Ethiopian restaurant in London’s rundown Paddington district, he pitches his voice barely above a whisper to foil the Western intelligence agencies he fears.

He demands that his dwindling number of loyalists use expensive encrypted cellphones and swaps his own as other men change shirts. He checks into hotels under false names, dyes his hair, sleeps on sofas and floors, and uses cash instead of credit cards, often borrowed from friends.

MSNBC.com

I think I may start to have a different look on this entire situation. And I am surprised myself that I never thought of it as why Julian Assange want's to release thousands of War Documents.

At first I thought he was doing it so we can know the truth behind our government, military, and whatnot. But now i'm beginning to see it as if he wants to have the US taken out.

I may not understand this entire situation very well, but it just seems that way.

Mr. Assange’s detractors also accuse him of pursuing a vendetta against the United States. In London, Mr. Assange said America was an increasingly militarized society and a threat to democracy. Moreover, he said, “we have been attacked by the United States, so we are forced into a position where we must defend ourselves.”

I think it is what it is.

I don't think he hates the American people. I think he sees the US govt. as being dangerous to democracy.
It's not a foreign thought to me either.

He might be an angel in disguise. Now who would believe that?

I have been online a very long time. In fact, I was online before the web came into being. Everyone thought usenet was the future of the Internet-imagine that. There was IRC and gopher and telnet and this thing popped up called www but it was pretty worthless at first.

I mention that because of this: en.wikipedia.org...

I think you have to understand that to understand Assange. I also suspect that the longer one is online and wired in, the more one might start to develop an affection for that ethic. I'm not sure about that, but I suspect it.

From what I see he has had a very strange life and always been somewhat of a gypsy, no offense to gypsies.

What has me so fascinated at the moment is that insurance policy he has.

True, he is putting himself through alot of situations one does not want to be in.

It's just upsets me that the country I live and grew up in is starting to look like the bad guy in others eyes.

I don't believe this moron completely thought through his actions before implementing it.

He will live his life now on the run from those who want to silence him.

I am sure he will not live to see old age.

That is the way our world is ran, unfortunately.

He will maybe receive a honorary Darwin award for having more balls than brains..

I truely believe Julian Assange is a hero and a very brave man. All this rubbish the media have being spewing about how by releasing these files he has put troops lives in danger, the US government are the ones who have put troops lives in danger by sending them into two digusting and illegal wars and letting there troops act like animals and get away with murder. If by telling the truth it hurts the US government, then US government has been acting in an extremely poor way.

I would NEVER, EVER call this man a 'moron.'

He might be sacrificing himself for the good of the world.
But we'd never condemn someone for that, would we? We'd never call for their death or execute them, would we?

Would we?
Are we sure he's the bad guy? What if he is only holding up a mirror and it is our own reflection we don't like?

Oh yes I sure can. It's disappointing.
But I guess that is the path that was chosen for us to take. Some of us just got dragged along.

No matter his motive, he is doing something that the vast amount of us wouldnt be brave enough to do. I dont understand people who call him names because I cant for the life of me understand how anyone would say releasing the documents to the public is a bad thing.

For too long those in power have gotten away with murder, behind door dealings and mind control. They have been good at it and its heroes like Assange who puncture their cloak and let us see the evil thats behind it.

Does he want the US to suffer? I think the best answer to that is in looking as a byestander at the situation in Iraq. The US/UK shouts terrorist and its troops walk on foreign soil killing and allowing civilians to be killed.

Now, explain that scenario to any onlooker and ask them who is the real terrorist?

Assange will always be looking behind and must always have one more rabbit to pull out his hat. Its what keeps him alive.

Respects

"""Mr. Assange said America was an increasingly militarized society and a threat to democracy. """

He's correct. I was PCS'ing from one military base to another. When I got to my new base I wrote a check to buy a new laptop at BestBuy. They wouldn't take my check and said their check verification company denied me. I had $16,000 in that checking account...what the heck? So I grabbed my Visa card and tried to use that to pay for the laptop....DENIED again by their check verification service. I had $0 on that card and a $10,000 available balance! Then I pulled out my US Government Travel Card I was so mad and tried to use that to pay for the laptop...DENIED again and it has an unlimited balance!

I finally found out there is this company called "Certegy" that ""tracks trends"" or something and they said I raised red flags because I was "traveling too much and buying gas all over"" so they disabled my access to any money I have. Even my US Government credit card. They wrote me a letter saying they apologized and were placing me on their "Gold list". That's when I realized this country is ran by morons and we are a militarized society and a threat to democracy.

Mr. Assange is correct. And he will learn just as I did. Leave their system and they will know nothing nor be able to control your access to funds. If those CIA freaks tried looking at what money I have they can control they will find nothing. I found alternate means outside of their controlled system. We ARE a threat to Democracy.

Gotta' agree with this. What'd the guy expect would happen? Isn't it like ... DUH?? You mess with TPTB and you'll be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life, however long it is. Did he think he'd just be sitting back and enjoying some kind of world wide hero-worship?

Anyone got info NOT coming from MSNBC on this?
They aren't the best source of info and they are so biased as to be unbelievable.

Thanks.
