well I'm with you that no-one will really solve this unless a relative is found, an the fact that i was not aware off, was that this has been an active thread for so long. I will still look at this thread with the curiosity it deserves

While I like the idea of this video being evidence for time travel, I'm instead inclined to believe the scene was a modern staged event produced for inclusion in the Chaplin DVD set. The reasons for believing this is as follows:

The video quality is very good, a little too good. The sharpness is decent without the usual old film fuzziness. Also, did fade-outs even exist back then? On the zebra's bridle some of the gemstones start to glimmer in color, especially from 3:39 to 3:41. And perhaps the most compelling evidence is the addition of another possible anachronism in what appears to me to be a modern day rolling media cart in the far left of the screen. While they may have had casters back then, the ones I've seen on antique dressers have been really small black wheels. But the casters on this cart look like big bulky modern day casters. And the cart itself also appears to be a modern design.

Keep in mind the scene in question was a DVD extra alleged to be from outside the movie's opening, not from the movie itself. So no Chaplin buff would be able to say "hey, that scene wasn't in the movie."
I'm thinking that the original panorama scene showing the large crowd in front of the theater was real. But then the DVD producers thought they would have some fun and dig out a zebra and elephant prop, some old easels and dress up a few people in period outfits; including having one be in drag while talking on a cell phone. I bet they got a good laugh out of that one. I wonder if ever in their wildest imaginations they ever thought it would turn into a huge speculation about it being evidence for time travel with a 5.8 million views youtube video and an ATS thread discussing the merits of that evidence for 79 pages?

What in question are we looking at here?

And i agree about how it could be set up, but i'm not sure they would keep the joke running this far. Then again maybe i'm to honest.

time traveller does look strong, carrying all that luggage from so far.

that is, cell phone TOWERS apparently.

otherwise, walkie talkie - were no kind of radio invented by 1928, really?

imo, radios and incandescent and maybe even flourescent lights were all available since ancient egypt so its hardly a stretch to think some scientists had radio communications by then (or some producers, imaginations thereof)

I don't know how many posts you read regarding this topic, but if you had read any at all I think you would have noticed that people kept going on about cell phones and phone towers and it was getting rather tiresome and boring. But if it is indeed a time traveller and the technology that has enabled him/her to get there, then I doubt very much that cell phone towers would really be needed, would they?............................Thinking outside the box sometimes helps............

Kirk didn't need a cell phone tower did he? Im rather disappointed this hasn't been solved yet. All the intelligent people on ATS who obviously know everything already and no one has solved this. "Cemtrails don't exist" "there isn't anything on the dark side of the moon" "yes all the World Trade buildings came down by two planes crashing into them" and so on. Oh well..... thank the goddess I have my end of the world size bottle of vodka.

This has been on ATS for about a year now and nobody has come up with an answer to it.....still intrigues me......

Apparently it's a hearing aid. They had the shape of cell phones and obviously you had to hold them to your ear. Who the hell she/he's talking to, I have no idea, but let's remember cell phones don't work without cell towers. I'm sure that's already been mentioned though.

If he is using a mobile telephone, where are the transceivers and satellites to facilitate his call?

Hi first post so go easy peeps. Found this on youtube.. Charles E. Alden who invented the "Vest Pocket Telephone." He envisioned the modern Cell Phone in 1906--104 years ago. and then he disappeared!

Hearing aid. Did a bit of research and that is what is in the hand. As far as the person looking like they are talking, remember you are looking at an elderly person, and they probably are excited that they are going into a movie, or heard a joke that is making them laugh and repeating the punch line to themself.

just because the person may be holding a mobile/cell phone doesn't mean they can't use it because of no phone masts being around in 1928...........if this person was indeed a time traveller, then the time he/she comes from and the technology that has developed may mean that there is no need for mobile/cell phone masts as we know them today in order for the phone to work........If you have read through the posts since this thread began, then you would have realised how bored people got with other members keep prattling on about cell/mobile phone masts, but that is what happens when other people cannot be arsed to read through what other people's points of view are within posts.................This thread is still open for ideas about what is seen in the piece of film and still open for debate, and has definitely not been debunked whatsoever.....

Did you seriously just suggest I read through 79 pages of replies to see if what I said was already posed or not? Wow.

I was not expecting that, no. not to read the whole 79 pages.....But if you had read at least the first 10 or 20 pages you would understand what I was talking about with the amount of people going on and on about cell phones and cell towers/masts etc...ATS members kept urging people to stop referring to cell phone masts and the like, but still they kept on about them and it got so repetitive and boring....But think about it, if time travel is a possibility and people have travelled back in time, then with the technology allowing him/her to do that, do you really, really think that cell phone towers would really be needed?

I am not having a go at you personally, but I really wish that people would try and think outside the box a little bit more.................

If you read the thread the answer furnished itself about 100 times. If you jump in 50 pages later and say there is no solution, thats just silly.
