Woman, 65, Dragged By Purse Through Parking Lot

Police said the 65-year-old suffered head injuries and is hospitalized at University of New Mexico Hospital. She is not well enough to give detectives a description of her assailants.

Whether she was hanging onto the shopping cart, or the bag, twisted in the purse, she was essentially drug about 40 feet. Albuquerque police Sgt. Trish Hoffman said.

This is another sad reminder of the times we live in. in yet another parking lot up in Santa Fe another woman suffered the same...
The victim in that purse snatching, Amy Kerinan, was also dragged and seriously hurt...

one could argue that ladies should be advised to let go their hand bags... but being an old guy I want to say any witnesses to such an event should drag the perp out of his or her car and pummel them soundly with the aforementioned purse!

“People want your stuff and we're constantly trying to educate the public about limiting personal belongings with you, Hoffman said."

How about you stop trying to educate the public and get off your a$$ and catch the SOB's who are doing this?

That makes me sick. It's a shame that the elderly get no respect and are targeted for this kind of abuse. It doesn't make much of a statement for the society that we live in.

Sad but I can see how this will become more and more.
I would also like to say it would be nice to leave the closer parking spots open for female shoppers. But I notice that this is not done at the Wal-mart and such here. People are lazy these days and will actually spend 20 minutes to try and get that up front parking space. Even if it is a young guy. Another thing would be go shopping in groups could be perhaps safer. Don`t carry a purse and simply use your pockets.

Wow, lots of incidents like this lately. The mayor of San Gabriel, CA just resigned after an attempted purse snatching. He dragged the woman alongside his SUV at 45 mph for a quarter of a mile:

I bet next time she wears roller-skates!

Imagine the suprise on their faces as she cruises along next to them on her skates punching them in the face, or macing them, or whatever.

Hey, you know in all seriousness, perhaps a cool invention for a purse would be to have a safety line, like the kind you have on a jetski. When the purse is nabbed, the line (attached around wrist for instance) pulls out of the purse activating some sort of mechanism. Perhaps when the purse is opened it will spray mace in the face of the person opening it.

Just a thought. Send me a couple dollars if you get rich on this idea!

After he dragged her that far they should get him for attempted murder if you ask me, she could have easily have been killed, Why are there no more charges going against him?

Not a bad idea
but in light of the fact these are the lowest of low life scum, praying on the weak elderly and infirm...
replace the mace with about 16 oz of C4

What pisses me off is the Police acting like it is her fault that this happened. The quote I posted earlier basically states that she's at fault for carrying a purse. We have some of the same crap going on in my area and the cops are saying the same thing. Pennsylvania is about to expand on their "Castle Doctrine" law, maybe after a few of these jerks get lead poisoning they will get the message.

...carrying a purse makes you a target regardless of your age... the bigger/fuller the purse is, the bigger target you make of yourself... not paying attention to your surroundings makes you a target... the more elderly you are, the more likely it is that you'll be perceived as an easy target... ditto if you're thin or sickly looking...

...common sense isnt common - yep...

Agreed
but these shopping centers are busy places, lots of people...
what happened to all the good samaritans?
Or has that too fallen by the wayside in the mad rush to oblivion?

...being in a busy place has always been a plus for a pick-pocket or purse thief... good samaritans are few and far between and that has always been that way too...

...if you care about the females in your life (regardless of their age), have a discussion about the dangers of running around oblivious to your surroundings and believing that theres always someone around who will risk their life to save yours... there are numerous simple (common sense) things one can do to lessen their risk of making themselves look like an easy target ...

...on another note, carrying a heavy purse is often the reason why so many women have perpetual backaches... they'll spend thousands on pain treatment (even surgery) but they wont stop carrying a purse thats got everything in it but the kitchen sink...

...why do so many people walk around oblivious to dangers that have been with humans for thousands of years?... why does someone's common sense cease to exist in lieu of fashion sense?...
