The base will do proficiency flights (based on radio traffic) in the daytime, so you can occasionally see these planes fly. Given the number of plane
spotters that are obsessive-compulsive, it would cause a ruckus if some rather standard F-16 showed up at a white world base after it has been MIA for
months. So they do the routine training at Groom Lake.
You can also catch the foreign aircraft under test in the daylight. They flew the Sukoi SU-27 east of the base, essentially free territory. They
probably want to make it known what they are studying to make the bad guys flying the foreign aircraft ansty. The same goes for all those SU-27 decoys
out by KINS.
The secret stuff is flown at night. :-(
The Have Glib Site-4 facility south of the TTR is run day and night. Generally I've been able to identify the planes they fly in the daylight. Night
time is hopeless. Even with night vision, there is the issue of magnification. As you magnify the image (needed to ID something over site-4 due to
distance from free territory), the light is reduced. It may be possible with modern NV to see aircraft at night, but not with surplus military NV.
