Strange Mechanical Sounds In The Clouds

No, no sonic boom for me! These sounds, thunder, whatever they were, happened off and on for about 1.5 hours. Interspersed with the weird noises were regular thunder. The normal thunder rolled and boomed like thunder always does, but the "fake" thunder cracked and snapped, sorta. I have no idea what it was!

where in ontario? i am near ottawa and it was clear skies yesterday, if you mean today, nothing today (cloudy though0) i will keep my ears open fellow canadian!

lol but seriously i heard a sound like that once, backa few years ago i was leaving high school walking through colon farms, and the sky (semi cloudy) made this LOUD super loud sound, that i was deafining, like gears moving, it freaked me out i had no idea what was happening.

Well this is a little interesting new anomaly here at ats this week, with multiple reports from different regions.
Maybe with more people aware, they will look/listen for this sound and hopefully someone will RECORD it to share.

As I stated in the first page, I seen 2 bright flashes in front of my face and all over the clouds...but more like the clouds lit up bright blue, twice.
I was out side smoking looking up in hopes to see something, and as i was bam bam, like 2 blinks of an eye.
and then I look around to see if I hear thunder but nothing?

I wasnt tripping, I replayed that image in my head for a while to figure it out but nothing could come to mind because hum no thunder. I wish I could see that again because it was weird

No! That is definitely not what I'm hearing! That sounds like Dr. Who's time machine/tele box!

What I hear sounds like a fake or movie-style version of thunder, sorta crackly and popping, but like it is in a tin can. I just can't think of any good way to describe it because it is not ANYTHING I have ever heard before.
I am never at a loss for words, but this sound's description just defeats me.

Hey there jennybee! Have you heard this on more than one occasion? Has anyone else around you noticed it?
Get a recording of it if it does...if possible.

Hey, SO!! Good to see ya!

I would LOVE to get a recording of it! That would mean we are gonna get more rain, and it is still powder dry here. We only had 8/10 in of rain last nite, and that is the first rain we have had in 6 weeks.
We have a small chance of rain (30%) this weekend, so I'll try to be ready to capture the sound.

Yes, I have heard it about 3-4 times before this. Back in June and July, we had some thunder without storms, and this is the way it sounded. Yes, all of us here at home heard how odd it sounded, but never really worried about it. Now that I see others are wondering what is going on, I feel like I should say something. It is not just me or them, but all of us hearing it, in different locations.

I hope to hear some soon, so maybe I can share what it is like. I just cannot seem to describe the sound adequately!

That is pretty bizarre! What were those lights, were they in the sky?
The sound gained volume significantly as you walked closer, as if the source was not too far off. But maybe that was a result of facing your mic straight towards it.
It is definitely mechanical and has some repeatable synchronistic parts, but it is not a loop of exactly the same sounds over and over, hmmmm...< scratches head >

When I first heard it I thought it was a drum squad for a marching band playing in a nearby stadium, but no, I don't think that was it.

I know I'd be trippin' if I heard that outside and was unable to determine it's source.
Were there any reports on the local news or did anyone talk about it at work?

YES!!!! That is what it sounds lik! Only what I am hearing is never that continuous, but comes in shorter bursts, like regular thunder would. If what I hear continued on for that long, I would crap my pants!

Yeah, SO, it reminds me of a far-off marching band, also. I hadn't ever thought of it that way, but it is a good description. I couldn't stand for it to go on that long, though! I think I would faint from fright!

Maybe they are testing the sound effects machines that will accompany a grand holographic(or US advanced crafts) alien invasion ploy. Truly unsettling, unrecognized and hella loud sound would certainly add to the realism of something crazy happening.

That is a truly horrible thought! I wish I had known before now that we weren't the only ones hearing this. I would have made sure to pay more attention to what else was going on at the time, and try to capture the sound. There is always next time, maybe?!

Just found this site. It has all kinds of reports from booms to random noises.

Thanks for that link! I have never heard of sky quakes, but I did make a report of what we heard this morning. Maybe more people will do the same and we'll have some idea how widespread this really is.

I too have heard that sound and it usually is coming from these clouds that are neon purple and bright almost sureal blue colors,
