In a word, no!

I think most people are open to the notion that there is life out there somewhere. Even scientists have came forward to say this, using the probability factor as ammo. I cant help but think that if the Government did disclose what they knew. There would still be those who refused to believe it, and would simply chalk it up to some Government control conspiracy. In fact i think people already are.

Thanks for your kind words. We must be on the cusp of the laughing stage and the fighting one, as there seems to be quite a bit of both! It can only help the cause of disclosure, the more people become aware of both the extreme likelihood of life in the universe, and the practical implications of this probability. To really come to terms with these, we must, as a species, widen our mental horizons, discarding the limitations suggested by our present circumstances and knowledge. I've actually read Dartnell's book on Astrobiology. It is subtitled "for beginners", but I would say it's really for a university science undergraduate level reader. He talks a lot about the specifics behind DNA, RNA, chirality and other puzzles that researchers are currently grappling with. If you can get through it, you'll come away with a pretty solid understanding of cellular biology and current research directions for detecting microbial life in space.
