paranormal experiences of saints

I read somewhere, about an ancient christian saint, who was bothered by "demons", lots of poltergeist type activity at night
I forgot his name, anyone know his name?

do you know about other saints, who were visited by "otherworldly beings", angels or demons?
can you say a few words about their experiences

anything you can contribute dealing with unexplainable experiences of saints, would be appreciated...

I think you are talking about Pio of Pietrelcina, also know als "Padre Pio". He was a Priest who had visible stigmata and many reports from followers tell it was not possible to sleep near his room because demons would toture him all night long.

There are surely more but I can't recall right now

I'm not sure but... I think all saints who had stigmata were tortured by demond of some kind...

Totally true. As closer you are from God, evil will show up, and sometimes in very peculiar way that may include entities or paranormal events. Even though, that could be a good sign. We need to be tested in order to develope stronger faith.

Besides that, in our days we learned that these "demons" are just only another kind of being, and they can be defeated like any other. They are loosing their mystery and becoming less scary.

I know there's a thread about saints in another place, but this thread is here. Now. And not overwhelmed with too many replies for me to catch up with!

So to go back to the original question:

Well, the first Saint I can think of would be Joan of Arc. She heard the voice of God who guided her into victory many times. And was burned for it. Or for politics; take your pick. Only, I think they took her sainthood away? I'm not Catholic, so I get confused on that part.

The only other one I can think of is Saint Anthony the Great, who apparently was plagued with laziness, boredom and visions of women but prayer helped him get over being mortal like that. But later, after living in a tomb for a while, he heard a voice that said, "Go out and see." I forget for what... but what is nice about him for this thread is that he was plagued by demons so much that he even tried to hide in a cave from them.

However, the cave was so filled with "little demons" that they apparently beat him up so much that his servant had to carry him back out again.

Maybe this is the guy you're looking for.



Heh, and now that I'm thinking about it: I came here after so long because someone sent me a link to a thread about hearing voices (because at first I was plagued and later my friends are plagued when I'm not around). Maybe I'm a saint in evil disguise. Being as I'm still not able to start my own thread (I once upon a time had over 20 posts but things have seriously changed. LOL) I shan't delve further.

I do now know what Joan of Arc heard, whether it was a God, there are many of those, or an ET being, or something else altogether, but whatever it was it gave her strength and helped her to lead an army. To me, that was something, and Joan is a favourite of mine. Some scholars say she was raped by the priests before being burned at the stake for witchcraft, and to me this makes perfect sense. They could not burn an innocent, now could they? In any case, much like most of the women throughout history who were tortured and burned for being smarter than men, Joan was innocent of doing anything but being what she was, a true Heroine. The Church finally made her into a Saint, not sure of how they do that, exactly. America needs a Joan right now, don't you all agree?

It has always been very curious to me that only the devout ever get possessed by, or bothered by demons. Why is this?
