The truth cannot be dependent on popular vote.

E = mc^2
It stands up to objections. If 51% of people disagreed with it, they'd be wrong. If 100% of people disagreed with it, they'd still be wrong.
Now, if 1 person came up with demonstrable proof that it was false, that 1 person would be right.

Unless you can demonstrate that all of the claims made by Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" about Fox News are false it would be best that you stop commenting on the subject.

I would, but then I'd actually have to watch Jon Stewart, and I don't want my brain to get all soft, mushy and icky, like yours

PS - Who died and made YOU boss of this thread... just like a liberal, always trying to get others to their dirty work for them!!

Hey look, another ad hominem attack.

Here's a simple difference between the left and the right, people on the left are actually willing to watch people on the right just to see what they're saying.

I never made an assertion that I'm the boss of this thread, but either you're a troll or have no connection to reality.

The only way to address a claim made is to actual face the claim. Since I would be unable to explain any of the points made by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show in a textual form, as it would be a long transcript that nobody would really want to bother reading, I suggest you watch the videos or don't comment about them.

I don't want to watch the videos and you can't make me.

This thread is about your dislike of Fox, and how you think cable news is a "solution". In case you forgot.

I'm confused. You say Fox News is full of outright manipulation and lies, but you think a comedian on Comedy Central is a barometer of "truth"?

Just so we're on the same page...

A comedian or comic is a person who seeks to entertain members of an audience, primarily by making them laugh. This might be through jokes or amusing situations, or acting a fool, as in slapstick, or employing prop comedy. A comedian who addresses an audience directly is called a stand-up comic.

I guarantee you that if you filled up his audience with conservatives, they would barely crack a smile, much less laugh. But hey, don't look now, Rome is burning, and TEA party Patriots are racing to put it out on November 2.

Alright, I never said I could. I do stress that any comments you make about Jon Stewart or The Daily Show and the claims the two make about Fox News are purely ignorant if you do not view the videos.

Well, who can forgive them for cancelling Firefly?
No, seriously, this thread is about my dislike for dishonesty and how pathetic it is that the only place where the dishonesty is really called out is on a comedy program.

and how you think cable news is a "solution".

News in general is supposed to be a solution to ignorance. It is the explicit and underlying function of the concept of 'news' to inform people about what is going on in the world.

In case you forgot.

Anyone else catching a whiff of straw in here?

Hey look, another ad hominem attack! Saying something about the character of a person doesn't discredit their statements.

Jon Stewart does something simple, he often lets the clips speak for themselves. Juxtapose two clips, show the contradiction. Fox News defeats itself.

[sarcasm]
Wow, you just put a non-cited external quote defining what a comedian is, that must mean everything a comedian says is inherently false and thus Jon Stewart is a poop head.
[/sarcasm]

Alright, continue to live in your little bubble where you refuse to look at information that is contrary to your world view. Don't look at the videos, they might smudge the narrative at Fox News.

But you are being very microscopic of your dislike of dishonesty.

I remember watching News Mix one day (DirecTv station) and Fox was talking about President Hu Jintao's visit from China to meet with Bush on a Tuesday, although the meeting with Bush wasn't taking place until Thursday. Now, on Fox, they said that Hu was here in the US early so that he could meet with several people, like Bill Gates who was throwing him a lavish 3-course meal and reception, and Boeing execs he was to meet with before he went to the White House.

Well, I switched over to the Situation Room on CNN when I saw they were about to cover the same trip, and they said that Bush had snubbed Hu and wouldn't meet with him for two days, and so in the meantime, poor little Hu would amuse himself by visiting with the Microsoft chief and Boeing officials. Yeah, poor little Hu was about to sign $16.2 BILLION dollars worth of American contracts, but I was supposed to be mad that Bush was "snubbing" him, even though they weren't to meet until the 3rd day of his trip.

You get that? Hu's here two days earlier than his visit to do some "shopping" as it were, and CNN accused the President of "blowing" him off. But FOX is the slanted news? Pfffhhhbbbbbt!

Have you ever been in a court of law? Saying something about the character of a person DOES discredit their statements. I considered the source in your example. Jon Stewart = Comedian.

Just so we're on the same page...

I'm saying consider the source - Jewish liberal who hates conservatives and Republicans as a whole, not as individuals.

That's not to say that I've never watched Jon Stewart, I have. I especially liked it when John Yoo handed Stewart's ass to him on a platter, but I don't suppose you liked the "truth" in that interview much.

Alright, continue to live in your little bubble where you refuse to look at information that is contrary to your world view. Don't look at the videos, they might smudge the narrative at Fox News.

I neither care if FOX News has a narrative or not, I glean what I need from them, as well as about 100 other sources. I should hope you do too. At least FOX gives liberals a voice. Name one other news station that allows someone with an opposing viewpoint (aka conservative) to get in more than 30 seconds of speaking airtime. I'll be waiting for that link, I assure you. And no, Joe Scarborough doesn't count.

But your insistence that I MUST watch Jon Stewart because he skewers FOX is about as appealing as my insisting you listen to Rush Limbaugh skewer EVERY news station that talks about Obama, or some such nonsense.

PS - Jon Stewart is Poopie-head, not "poop head".

Well, it would take an endless discussion to deal with the overall dishonesty of the media, so I just wanted to talk about the one media outlet that didn't just practice dishonesty but made it their standard.

You get that? Hu's here two days earlier than his visit to do some "shopping" as it were, and CNN accused the President of "blowing" him off. But FOX is the slanted news? Pfffhhhbbbbbt!

I snipped the majority of that anecdote because it's off-topic. I provided 14 different examples of The Daily Show being dishonest in varying degrees, and you just provide a simple anecdote without a source to hold Fox News as being less slanted.

Also, "Pfffhhhbbbbbt!" and other such noises do nothing to make your points valid.

The simple fact is that you're simple refusing to watch evidence to the contrary of your position.

Hey look, another ad hominem attack! Saying something about the character of a person doesn't discredit their statements.

Have you ever been in a court of law? Saying something about the character of a person DOES discredit their statements. I considered the source in your example. Jon Stewart = Comedian.

No, it really doesn't. It's the logical fallacy known as the argument ad hominem.

This isn't a court of law, we're working under logical rules, not legal ones. In this situation the claims stand alone with the evidence and logic of those claims. There is no room for a lie that cannot be exposed. In a court of law you don't always have a way to test if a person is lying so attacking a person's character isn't necessarily going to be off base.

Here you are off base. Comedians can tell the truth, here comedians are definitively telling the truth. You're the one that's simply being childish and outright refusing to look at the claims at all. Take a look at a random link and you'll see that they stand on their own, regardless of who is making the claim.

I'm saying consider the source - Jewish liberal who hates conservatives and Republicans as a whole, not as individuals.

Wow, so apparently his religion has something to do with it?
And can you please support the claim that he hates conservatives and Republicans as a whole? I've been watching the show regularly for...probably six years now, and I've yet to see him actually categorically hate any group except for Nazis.

He's in fact outspoken for the cause of sanity and reason in public discourse, going so far as to hold a "Rally to Restore Sanity" and encouraging people to hold up reasonable signs.

That's not to say that I've never watched Jon Stewart, I have. I especially liked it when John Yoo handed Stewart's ass to him on a platter, but I don't suppose you liked the "truth" in that interview much.

I don't think we were watching the same interview because it was quite clear that Yoo was dodging issues left and right, but that isn't really the issue at hand.

We're talking about Fox News and a specific set of claims that you have not even listened to, let alone addressed.

Edit to add:

How about I simply take Meet the Press?
They've had all sorts of conservatives on that show from Dick Cheney to Michael Steele to Karl Rove etc.

I neither care if FOX News has a narrative or not, I glean what I need from them, as well as about 100 other sources.

Hyperbole much?
Considering your various statements, you're quite entrenched in their narrative.

I should hope you do too. At least FOX gives liberals a voice.

Name an actual liberal that goes on Fox and actually has a voice.
No, Alan Colmes isn't a liberal, he's a right of center moderate, which is what Fox News classifies as a liberal.

Name one other news station that allows someone with an opposing viewpoint (aka conservative) to get in more than 30 seconds of speaking airtime. I'll be waiting for that link, I assure you. And no, Joe Scarborough doesn't count.

I'm waiting for a link to where Fox News has interviewed proper liberals

And again, attacking other networks does nothing to invalidate the claims made by The Daily Show (whose guests in the last month have included included Bill O'Reilly, Condoleezza Rice and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor).

We're not talking about overall media bias, I'm talking about a pathological habit of Fox News to spread falsehoods.

But your insistence that I MUST watch Jon Stewart because he skewers FOX is about as appealing as my insisting you listen to Rush Limbaugh skewer EVERY news station that talks about Obama, or some such nonsense.

I never said you must watch Jon Stewart, get rid of that straw man. I'm talking about watching the specific clips before you address their validity, which is logical at the most basic level of logical discourse. Of course, logical discourse clearly isn't your cup of tea.
