Going to make this simple...that way everybody will get it...'k?

Just how do those of you that post here make your choices of what posts you will or won't answer?

Do you look at the titles and think if it doesn't grab me, not worth it?

Do you look at the date the OP joined and figure, darn...they been here a while and because of that they must be some kind of "agent" lookin' to bring me down???

Do you only reply to posters that are your FRIENDS that give ya Facebook, Twitter you, and you go home to My Space together?

Do you drop the sarcasim, paranoia, and asinine attitudes long enough to REALLY see what is going on in the other minds of people that post?

I got it, it must be the kind of avatar or screen name that catches you, right? Just because of the creativity...anything less doesn't even deserve a look.

Basically, I could go on with questions of this type for hours, but to tell you the truth, if anyone chooses to even look at what I have written, I will be surprised. I realize that each person on this site has the right to answer and not answer what they choose, I am not telling anyone what to do, but I would appreciate the minuscule insight, and thank you for sharing.

The good news, I read what you had to say. I can only answer for myself. I skim read the recent news for topics I care about first. After I have read those, I go back to other topics that may have caught my eye. So yes for me, most of the time it will be the headline that gets my attention first.

I also have to say I have some favorite authors, members, I like to check out as well. The only thing I remember about avatars since you asked is some I recognize as trouble makers and others I enjoy reading, or I know I may learn something from their post, or I recognize them as a friend and look forward to what they might have to say.

Hope that helps a little for you! That's how I roll at least!

First the title has to be of an interesting/enlightening topic. None of the criteria you listed makes a difference to me. The op has to be structured in a way that makes sense. It has to make me want to learn, teach or see things from a different perspective. If it's just babble I won't hesitate to pretend it doesn't exist.

If the topic catches my eye, I will read it. I do not always, nor would I say mostly, post. I feel posting on message boards is somewhat dumb, yet I am here anyways...go figure. I say it's dumb because we all assume by posting that someone gives a crap about what we say. The only people who pretend to care (most of the time) are those who agree with you.

But back to topic...

Like I said, it has to do with title. If I'm board, I will go through one by one and read the "recent threads"

Breaking news always gets a look from me though.

I have to ask though...what's with this thread? Not trying to call you out anything like that, but I sense a bunch of..hostility. Care to explain? Again, really not trying to be an ass or anything. Genuine question.

I know I have posted some, what I thought were, worthy threads. They got very little response. I felt jaded at the time. It sucked.

I will say hello to anyone who's intro comes up on the front page. Other than that, yeah I have to personally know something about the topic in order to reply. Write what you know, thats what they say!

I usually go to and post to my favorite topics first. I then review the list again and if something in the title seems of interest to me, especially breaking news, I will go there and most likely post as well. I never post on a topic because of an avatar or friend that created the thread. I also try to go back to topics where I left a post to see any other interesting info and replies to my post. I sometimes read other topics that I am not quiet as interested in, if there is too much conflict between those posting there, I do not leave a post. I see not reason to add fuel to the fire.

the author matters not

the subject is of some importance

the presentation by the author on the topic/subject is the defining point.

a bunch of mindless tripe is not around here often ... like in GLP...

as for the subjects topic; pure misdirected logic is common
and my responses will either be to show a reasonable alternative- or-
to try to contribute a further enlarging in the area the topic covers

i really look down upon threads/topics that try to inundate the reader with
a plethora of pics and input... in an attempt to look 'learned'... they generally
surface as point hounds and flag/star prostitutes...

thats my 2 cents

Content

Just as in any facet of life, concepts are only as good as your ability to communicate them . The ability to express oneself in a coherent and concise manner is always a plus.
On a text based forum, often the title of a thread is all we have to inform us of its content.

Do you look at the date the OP joined and figure, darn...they been here a while and because of that they must be some kind of "agent" lookin' to bring me down???

If I am to make any judgement on another member it is always on the quality of their posts and not their registration date . Though special mention should be made of the fact that new members often take a while to be socialised into the nuanced workings of ATS. By that I mean familiarising themselves with the T & C`s under which this site operates. I myself had to shed a rather adversarial attitude which I had unconsciously picked up on YouTube. I think my on-line experience is the better for it.

Do you only reply to posters that are your FRIENDS that give ya Facebook, Twitter you, and you go home to My Space together?

No.

Do you drop the sarcasim, paranoia, and asinine attitudes long enough to REALLY see what is going on in the other minds of people that post?

Now hear surfaces the latent aggression with which you wrote the OP. Have you recently had a bad experience here on ATS. You have been a member for a substantial number of years, are you like other long time members, sensing a decline in the quality of ATS since it went mainstream.
Or am I making a judgement based on your registration date .

I got it, it must be the kind of avatar or screen name that catches you, right? Just because of the creativity...anything less doesn't even deserve a look.

There is a reason why big corporations spend so much on advertising every year. It works !
But a lack of substance is easily spotted, so a flash avatar or user-name can only at best lead a horse to water , it won`t make it drink......

Obligatory thumbs up to show I mean no harm .

Its kind of ironic that somebody who creates a thread about posting in threads and responding to threads... , doesn`t bother to respond in her own thread.

Priceless.

Goodnight Holly .

I base my posts and responses to topics I like the most. I spend alot of time in skunk works as I see this place as being full with personal experiences and personal understandings. I stay away from political trolls and other troll threads. Fo example the one that is at the top of the front page now
.

I normally read the title and then read the first post. I am not a sheep so I don't just go for a thread because its at the top. Although sometimes they are at the top for a reason. I like hearing peoples views and experience and I keep an open mind on any topic that may be deemed crazy or ludicrous by others.

This thread for example is worthy of a read not only because its in skunkworks but I too have pondered the same question that you have asked from time to time.

I pretty much look at recent posts and see what takes my fancy. I dont go for any specific subject although i do have my favourites. Half the time its just things that have already been discussed when you stick to one thing. I find i learn more by doing this.

The voices tell me what to post and where to post it.

Actually I read about five times as many threads as I post into. If I have an opinion, thought, addition, idea, sarcastic, or witty comment that comes to mind - that's what hits the page. I sometimes dig and research what I post if it feels like the thing to do. But quite often what I say is 100% off the cuff and should be taken as nothing more than my slightly off-the-wall view of the world.

But with this reply... It was definitely the voices!

I like to read/look at the topics on this site that interest me...which are mainly the funny ones or the completely nutty ones. Then I add my lame joke, then it gets deleted for being "off topic" and then I move on to the next one.

However, I decided to post on this topic because I find your lack of avatar to be very intriguing. The mystery is so...mysterious......mmmph.

Actually, not as ironic as one may think, as I was waiting before I replied to those responses left on my doorstep. Got late, and I enjoy what sleep I can get...

as for your inquiry, why didn't I post more in the time I have been here? I used to have a life....and was without computer for several years. Now, thanks to the fates, notice I said I "used to have a life", all in my world is different and allows me to spend more time on site...
so be careful what you ask for.

Thanks to all those that have replied to this thread, I truly was/am curious as to what makes y'all post, and no, personally, I haven't had any problems here, but I have watched things change in many ways, and some not for the better...but then again that's life both in and out of the matrix, eh?
