Microsoft has issued advice about the loophole
Users are being told to avoid using Internet Explorer until Microsoft patches a serious security hole in it.

The loophole is being exploited to open a backdoor on a PC that could let criminals take control of a machine.

I was just trying out IE after I had finally scrubbed away a browser hijack, and then I read your thread.

I am not replying with Mozilla.

I'm so glad I dumped IE ages ago. It really does make the Internet more safe, controlled and even more fun*

*if you consider tabbed browsing as fun, other people may require more stimulation than tabbed browsing can deliver to declare something "fun". This can only be judged at a personal level. I am sad enough that tabbed browsing is actually fun for me. Then again, I am very, very old.

Mozillia Firefox is the way to go.

Its faster and safer than IE.

I find my Mozilla and Galleon Internet clients to be fine. Internet Explorer has always had a bad history with exploits, makes me wonder if they're doing it on purpose? I know open-source software is a big portion of the reason why these clients are safer but wouldn't a monopoly company be able to dish out something a bit more appetizing? I heard however with SP2 there will be tighter security and even an ad-blocker in IE.

Is there any updates on this? is it still recomended we dont use IE?

I always recommend NOT using IE! The underlying problems are still not patched, so you have to use another browser, set your IE security settings to "high" and disable scripting, or apply the Windows XP Service Pack 2 beta. Of those, using an alternate browser is the easiest.

because it prevents the currently un-patched cross-zone scripting exploit. I've tested it, and XP SP2 patches the flaws currently affecting IE6 even with up-to-date hotfixes.

Lucky I downloaded Firefox a few days ago.
I'm just getting used to it, but it does appear to be a decent browser even with the primitive piece of kit I'm currently using it on.
