Hi ATS! How ya doin'? Me? Well I'm fine I suppose, but something's been chappin' my behind lately.

It's my facebook news feed. It seems at least twice a day a few of my dear friends post NPR articles on their walls.

Whether it's a fun carbon video for idiots or a blatant israeli agenda I can always count on at least two of my friends to parrot some agenda-ridden piece of junk npr article, day in and day out.

So who owns NPR?

Corporation For Public Broadcasting

It has a nice ring to it, for being a corporation and all, don't ya think?

Oh.....maybe that's why I like it.....I could never get enough of good ol' La Forge

So when was Corporation For Public Broadcasting founded?

1967

The 60s eh? That was a busy decade

By who?

Congress and President Johnson using the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967

Why?

During the 1960s, during a period of intense scrutiny and criticism of television, a report by the Carnegie Commission outlined measures to improve the quality of television by increasing the quantity of educational programming. The report recommended that funding for public television be increased and that an organization be formed to funnel funding to public broadcasting stations. Initially, this funding was to come from a tax on television sets like that used in Great Britain. Partly because of opposition from television manufacturers, the funding source was changed to Congressional appropriations.

In 1962 the federal government began helping to fund educational television through the Educational Television Facilities Act.

I am reminded of the movie V for Vendetta where the state controls the media outlet.

Up here in the sticks I only get two stations, country with pop culture news, and good ol' NPR

Mother should I trust the government?

internet radio or satellite radio. Not that there are any "REAL" new sources out there, but if you listen to a wide variety, you can pick through the fluff and find a few actual "news" stories on occasion. Or you could boycott them altogether and just get your news from ATS. But Hurry, I heard the world is going to end sometime this month.
