Not necessarily. People do have a right to freely exercise their religion and taxing such an organization categorically could inhibit that. If you are
a Catholic in an area with only a small number of members the taxation might be enough to prevent your church from continuing its operation.
If you're a Catholic and go to a church that asks for donations that are upwards of $3000 for a single prayer lamp (yes, personally experienced this
one when with my girlfriend's family at a church in Florida...I got dragged their because I'm too reasonable to start an argument over it. I just
read the Bible and laughed), that's a different story.
There's a difference between 'free exercise' and 'taking advantage of the system'.
