n his book, "The Last Speakers: The Quest to Save the World's Most Endangered Languages" (National Geographic Books, 2010), K. David Harrison and his team traveled around the world to interview the few remaining speakers of dying languages, from Siberia to Bolivia.

Nearly 7,000 languages are spoken on Earth, and somewhere between 60% and 80% of them have yet to be documented. As speakers sw More..itch to global tongues, such as English and Spanish, they lose not only the ability to converse in their local languages but also the detailed cultural knowledge that these languages embody. Linguists estimate that a language dies every 14 days.

Below is a map showing the locations of some of these last speakers and the languages whose words they carry. Less..

There a hundreds of Aboriginal languages I'd love to see saved, sadly only a dictionary here or there is all that is left, with a handful of native speakers.

True Nyungar would be awesome...

But having spoken with numerous people, the south west language is destined to be dead.

I do wish I could grasp celtic however. from my ma's old tongue..

Man .. language should be COMPULSORY in schooling..

yes i agree , i have been studying Russian now for about 2 years ,i can hold a decent conversation ,but its just amazing how the language that people speak forms their personality's ,and the many different story's and tales to hear , its sad when you think that its all going to die out unless its recorded .

thank you for your post my good man
