Regardless of whether you are on a social-networking site, you can be tracked down. Most shops these days have CCTV that are of a quality these days that will plug into facial recognition systems, so you can be nailed that way.
When you shop somewhere you likely use a card to pay for your goods... another good way of tracking you down. Likely you have a store loyalty card, yet another way....

So on and so forth. They have all the systems in place to track and trace you... and you think it's all for your benefit?
