PARIS – Citizens of the world's richest countries are getting fatter and fatter and the United States is leading the charge, an organization of leading economies said Thursday in its first ever obesity forecast.

Three out of four Americans will be overweight or obese by 2020, and disease rates and health care spending will balloon, unless governments, individuals and industry cooperate on a comprehensive strategy to combat the epidemic, the study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said.

The Paris-based organization, which brings together 33 of the world's leading economies, is better known for forecasting deficit and employment levels than for measuring waistlines. But the economic cost of excess weight — in health care, and in lives cut short and resources wasted — is a growing concern for many governments.

"Food is much cheaper than in the past, in particular food that is not particularly healthy, and people are changing their lifestyles, they have less time to prepare meals and are eating out more in restaurants," said Sassi, a former London School of Economics lecturer who worked on the report for three years.

Well its not like we didnt see this coming. Mcdonalds, taco bell, ect.....I think that kind of food will be the biggest killer in the future.

This can be the new Democrat party platform. Rich countries are having problems with obesity, so we are going to make you poor.

Look for taxation on things the government think are bad for you. Is this why we are seeing all these things on the MSM now? Like Marie Obama talking about having carrots with your Bic Mac?

I am SO going to laugh when they start taxing these things like they tax tobacco. But, oh well, it IS GOOD FOR YOU, all these taxes I mean.

You know how I would combat obesity? Take everyone off the teat of the nanny state. That might do er.

Remember fat people are people too, Americans should accept and embrace this.

3 out of 4 people is pretty damn terrible on the economy, and greedy.

In some parts of the country we are already just about there. I am thinking specifically of the Midwest. I think about this every time I see a school letting out or something similar. So many of the kids you see are overweight.

Even 30 years ago you would be very hard pressed to find an incredibly obese CHILD. Now, all you have to do is take a stroll to your nearest Wal-Mart.

This is clealy a plan by Obama, The Vatican, The Queen and the NWO to get us all fat so they can feed us to our coming alien lizard kings. Clealy the internet is one their greatest tools. Instead of going outside and doing something they keep Americans sitting on their buts posting on forums.... Maybe ATS is working for them as well

Me too and thus I am considered morbidly obese by the current body mass index metric.

There are some flaws with their metrics. One that includes overall fitness would be preferable.

The waist size of the average dude has crept up there alright, theres no doubt about it.
Women too are heavier but have all those hormone issues and such so it is harder to tell the direct cause...
What i have seen is the sweep of technology slowly at first, but rapidly acellerating.
I started in the bush with the second generation power saws...
The old pioneer and IEL 650s and the RA McCullochs.
They shook ones hands to insensibility and wieghed forty pounds but they were faster and more efficient than the two man saw....and much lighter.
Then came the third gen saws and still better horsepower with anti vibe and eveb heated grips...
But the next generation never came...instead a crude feller buncher was invented and the end was spelled for the fallers though it took a while to arrive after that.
Where tewnty men worked,hard physical labour all day.... now three or four can accomplish the same production while sitting on their respective asses!
No wonder they have gotten obese....
